And apparently her Ruth Doll wanted to play pirate last night....
Ruth's that way in the stories, isn't she?

Oh, yes...  There's a goofy,  psycho-cinema pirate story we've been trying to finish for ages.  This is a reference to that, but yes, dressing up like a pirate on a flimsy excuse is in quite in character...

The parrot's cute - it's actually an earring, isn't it?

Because of my current chainmail project involving a Barbie-scale prototype, Mylochka dug around and finally found the four other Barbarians she didn't sell off. (Also, bought me two Barbies to work with at the doll show yesterday.)

She doesn't know how the brother front-and-center in the pics below got the sunglasses, but he just looks so much like he's having an indecently good time cosplaying barbarians with his friends that a whole little scene wrote itself in my head:

Fade in on barbarians walking around the con]

Michael had had reservations about setting foot in public in the costume, not least that 'the metal diaper would look fruity', but his friends said he could be the barbarian chief, the girls assured him that his body looked 'yummy' in the gear, and a few admiring stares from bystanders later, he was getting REALLY into it.  Humming the theme from Shaft, he got into his best deep, deep, Isaac Hayes voice.

"Jason; get ready to hand me my sword.   That dragon up ahead look like he think he can keep me down, and I ain't asking either of you twice.  Ladies; you just keep singin' backup."

;notes; Who is the man/Who will risk his neck for a barbarian? ;notes;

;notes; SHAFT! Barbarian Shaft. ;notes;

;notes; That's right ;notes;

"Hey white boy with the camera!  Sit on the floor and get a low angle.  I wanna looomm.

"Awwwww yeah."

(She's in the middle of working up bunches of dolls to sell at a local doll show.)

 ;eek I would have used a fainting smiley. An actual doll reduction?!

She swears selling Barbies she'd dressed and done various customizing things to on EBay in the 90s contributed substantially to paying off her student loans in about 10 years.  There used to be quite a market for custom Barbies on EBay in the 90s economy, since dried up.  Sometimes, people were paying $40 for a $5 doll in a homemade dress, nothing else.

Selling some makes some money back and makes room for more...  She had the pleasure of having them, the pleasure of doing whatever she did to them, and gets the pleasure of $$ and room back that way.

I keep thinking about "walls of plastic crap" when I read that...LOL!

At least it is not "vampire teeth"...lol! It was like a running joke in New Orleans 00 to 03. All the rainbow and washed up ren faire refugees blamed the market falling out for custom vampire fangs ( I heard like 5 stories all from different folks). But, I think it was more because no one liked them. I mean, I know the Camarilla and such. But really... how many wealthy neckbeards or neckbeardettes really wanted custom vampire teeth other than maybe ONE con costume? MAYBE a larper. And, something tells me the SCA folks and rennies would not want one either nor Burning Man folks.

At least dolls have a niche market for those that love walls and walls of plastic crap. But, I think the whole "walls of plastic crap" decor fell out of vogue a long time ago. A trend that is bad for her, but probably a good thing. Plus, 5 USD doll for 40? It's like gaming computers. Anyone really into that would build their own in the woman cave. Just like building computers for other people fell to the wayside.

Some of the dresses were really super.  Some were just cocktail dresses but nice.  Mattel was selling special editions for $90 at the time in stores, where it was just a fancy box and a very nice dress.

She also does a lot of face/makeup repainting, and re-rooting all-new hair.  Mix and match on any given EBay offering.  I, myself, put her onto black sisters like Barbie, too, but want something looking a little closer to them, which proved a good market while the market was good - lots less artists working in minority/ethnic Barbies.

-Anyone mind if I move a few purely dolls posts into the thread for that?  (If you've not seen Dolls, Green, it's still on the 1st page, and talk about walls of plastic.  (Time to post another pic in the Valeria Lukyanova thread, come to think of it. ;))

The precious dolls are facing imminent extinction in the face of various circumstances that present themselves in the BUncle household *Faints*.

I failed you all terribly the day of the doll show a few weekends back, when I went to take pictures of Barbarian Shaft & co. and didn't think to turn around and photo the living room table full of the ladies' doll show haul behind me.

Attached is the three still on the table yesterday - the rest are already on shelves.  The girl in the middle appears to be a set with the Bar Mitzvah boy on the left.

-I'll try to do better in the future - and I was just on Mylochka the other day to take pictures of everyone she's working on for the show before she sells them (an artist should keep that kind of record of their work when they intend to part with it) so hopefully, I can get her to post those.

Anyway, laugh it up, Green, but you're just in on the joke; I live in the Doll House. ;)

What happened to the doll on the right? The Doll's head does not match the size of its arms and legs  ???.

I think that's just how she was made, or a trick of the angle or something.

Abort, Retry, Fail?' was the phrase some wormdog scrawled next to the door of the Edit Universe project room. And when the new dataspinners started working, fabricating their worlds on the huge organic comp systems, we'd remind them: if you see this message, always choose 'Retry.
