Dolls that look haunted give me the creeps.

Well, since this for haunting research, I'll search images, and give you some examples.

Since you probably know that you'll actually survive Disney's Tower of Terror, I can tell you that at the end of the haunted elevator ride there are some interesting replica props to the side including a ventriloquist's dummy.

anyway just google imaging and picking out the faces seems to suggest I'm not alone in this opinion. The links and attachments are different pictures.-

I think it's a nice idea that some lady designed dolls for kids with down's syndrome, but they freak me out-
(see attachment )

http://feltalive.com/gallery.htm

There's just something in general about a doll that looks as if it could come to life ( twighlight zone manequin episode ), OR one that might have been human once in a "House of Wax" kind of way, OR in a person trapped in a doll's body ( twilight zone ventriloquism episode ). Then there's the evil Talking Tina episode, but the killer dolls aren't as scary to me as the dolls or something else turning people into dolls in a zombie-kind-of-way.

I've seen some creepy ones in antique stores that I wouldn't trust with my kids if I had kids.

A doll doesn't have to be  intentionally creepy to be creepy.   Apparently there's a word for fear of dolls- "Pediophobia"

I hope this helps.

I've certainly seen the uncanny valley effect at work.  My mother and sister are doll artists, and Sis got Mom a subscription to a ceramic doll maker's magazine - for a year, every time I had myself a private sit-down in the reading room, I was staring at these exquisitely-crafted, carefully and skillfully painted, very realistic dolls on the cover.

Creepy poop-time about 10 o'clock every day, I tells ya.

Ah, those are absolutely NORMAL.  You want with the creepy dolls, I can point you to whole sections on where to buy and how to make them.

What's wrong with the monster high dolls?   Or is that one of the bratz knockoffs?

Here, have some nightmare fuel.

The Monster High dolls has to do with the sickly unnatural  lip & eye coloration. Otherwise, the facial shape/eye size and complexion vaguely suggests the Gray Aliens. Basically I googled images of dolls, picked out the ones that seemed creepy, hit the "more" key for another page a couple of times.

I'd say you're right. Either somebody got candy cane on Christmas clearance/expired/ factory rejects for little or no cost, or they thought the mint would keep away the mites.

What little I've seen of those cable ghost shows makes me think "blair witch project", and whenever I see that lighting it comes across as low budget hoax - more insulting than scarey. Maybe this show is different.

Oh, Destination Truth was a special show, that's to be sure.  The clip there doesn't do the show itself justice.  They were much less about 'finding evidence' than they were showing the mythology in context with the cultures that spawn them.  They didn't take it very serious, themselves, but the island of the dolls is a real place that I can't blame them for being a bit creeped out running around in the dark.

I mean, the place is just WRONG.

For the first time, the show interests me...

Oh, you'd love the host.  He's not the traditional overserious/treat the natives with kid gloves type.

The episodes roughly follow a format 30 minute segment per monster:  Discussion about what creature they're looking for > adventures in traveling to remote location, including crazy trnasportation > interviewing RANDOM locals while shopping in the local bazaar/eating the local quisine > interview local expert (which is sometimes, say, a witch doctor/tribal chief) > If custom calls for it, get blessed by local priest > last 5 minutes, go wander in the woods.  They almost never really find anything more than shadows in the dark (when they do it's always inconclusive), and most end with something along the lines of "to the people of wherever, there is no doubt."

Of course, they edit those times to more investigating if interesting things were happening and all, but most the show is about the travel and seeing the other cultures.  Best 'monster hunting' show I've seen, really sad it's not around.

This one on the upper left was the one that "jumped out" at me from the Island of the Dolls.

I'll have to point out the show to Mylochka; the cultural/anthropological aspects sound right up her alley.

yeah, if I EVER do dolls, it'll be inspired by that place.  Never understood the doll fear till I saw that.

Similarly, they did a graveyard that was creepy as all hell as well.  Like a lightbulb going on.  That's what I loved most about the show.

Also, she's a doll artist, so that episode may be of particular interest...

Does she do CREEPY dolls?  (as in aged/dirtied/etc)  I could probably hook you up with places to sell those.

No, generally I do the opposite.  I take aging dolls and figure out how to make them look new again.  These picture make me want to get out a tub of warm water and a bottle of Clorox Clean up and go to work!!

But yeah, I agree with you, the "creep" factor for Doll Island is through the roof.  Makes you think not only of death and violence but of innocence lost or betrayed.  Not just scary, but sad scary. Hits you in the little kid part of your heart...

I've been seeing a lot of the Monster High dolls recently.  As a doll customizer,  they're interesting to me because they have very large features for such small dolls -- making them great candidates for repaints. I'm also intrigued that they offer "roll your own" kits for these dolls... Very tempting!

And as you know, Uno, we've done some work together in sinister masks - I imagine something like Day of the Dead dolls would not at all be out of the question.  Lots of artistic possibilities in working with the creepy dolls of various cultures.

As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.
