I screwed up and forgot to get the camera back to Mom for the show; sorry 'bout that.

I understand more clothes than anything else moved again this time.  And the barbarians attracted a LOT of attention.  A black man is supposed to have lingered over Barbarian Shaft for a very long time, though he didn't buy, but Shaft and Jason did get sold, though for less than I think the time put into smithing the swords was worth.  A doll show crowd isn't really the ideal audience, but teen girls would pick up the barbarian girls and shout "LOOK AT THIS!" at someone they knew, and it sounds like the barbarians had a real value for novelties drawing attention to the table.

Ooooh YEAH.

I'm told Shaft wasn't wearing the shades, which I think was a major part of his charm...

Freaks and clowns.

Nothing too shabby about being novelties to attract attention.

It wasn't five weeks.  They went and did some setup today...

Note that somebody turned up a bunch of the missing swords, and at least Genghis Ken and one of the girls is getting a shot.

Mom promises more at the actual show tomorrow.

Is that a mad hatter costume I spy?

And that white haired/black dress in the second row from the back on the left looks like it would make an admirable vampire countess...

The best Mylochka ever did on Halloween stuff was back in the EBay days, she was trying to think of a holiday theme pair -she'd done well with a Santa Ken and elf Barbie in a white fur-trimmed short red tube cocktail dress (which was both easy and cute) and I suggested Ken in a wizard robe and Barbie in the same dress only orange and black.  The fluffy bunny Halloween crowd ate it up.

I've made that exact point emphatically - and these are for-the-heck-of-it projects made years ago, so worth is relative when cash is needed and many projects on hand taking up space.  (Could have made five times as much on EBay back when the custom Barbie market was crazy big.)

I talked about the Supergirl idea to Momma for half an hour last night - and some related talk about stuff that ought to be better payoff for the effort and move.  But it's always a matter of the money sucks for the time and skill put in, so limited worth in projects done just for the money.  Those are only worth it briefly while the crafting is still engaging.

"Halloween stuff" has CHANGED, though.

Look at Monster High.  It's positively mainstream now.

A vampire count/countess in traditional elegant wardrobe would appeal to a wider range than just "Halloween" today.  Don't even have to CALL them vampires, really.

Heck, a well done Frankenstein/bride combo as well.  Most over-exaggerate the hair.

I know she's taken some interest in the Monster High dolls as demonstrated early in this thread - but the whole field of creepy stuff is really outside her interests.

Her tastes would run to an elaborate set of Frankenstein characters done very Victorian -possibly heavily influenced by the Branaugh/DeNiro movie, 'cause she loves those guys, if not the movie- as in the Shelley novel.  Awesome, but hardly in the good-return-on-effort category, for all that it would probably get snapped up fast...

An apple doll I carved the head for as a kid - it really didn't turn out well, any more than it wanted to photograph worth anything...

Ok...

  • Monster high mermaids:  Creepy/cute mermaids is a great idea
  • Two headed idea has very little of the cute
  • Anatomy (of two headed freaks) class might help the design
  • Judging by my kids, if you're going to design a 'swimming' toy, make it actually water friendly

So the story is, when Mylochka was about to turn 16, Momma asked her what she wanted.  -She said "a man".  So Momma made her first lifesize doll, Harlan Mann.

He's lived in the playhouse since, but has been in the woodshed for a couple months since the cleaning.

If the story's right, he'll be turning 38 about the time Civ 6 drops.  White knit material, stuffed, acrylic paints face - real clothes (Dig the far-out mid-70s polyester material).

It gets better - as something of an expert on her stitchwork, I can say that Mom made the shirt - just for a person, who stopped wearing it (or was suddenly missing a shirt).

There was a doll show today.

This is the doll haul.

There was another doll show today.  Mylochka roughly broke even on her table fee again -I told her yesterday to stop trying to sell during hurricanes- but they had a good time and came back with dolls they got really good deals on.
