Sorry, misunderstanding there.  The whale tour advertisements I've seen do guarantee sightings or money back.  Problem is what defines a sighting, probably.

I think the biggest differences are due to environment and the fact most cats are ambush/solitary predators.  Yeah, lions and a couple others (mostly small species) form prides, but largely, cats are solitary.  This calls for different strategies. 

In the case of your Cape Hunting dogs, pack size is an important factor.  Hunting groups of 20 are common today, much larger than a lion pride or wolf pack hunting party (which are lucky to get half a dozen), and it is assumed pack sizes were much larger prior to being endangered.  This size distributes the exertion over a larger group.

I took a circular walk towards the sea and back to my vacation apartment just after sunset. A smallish dog (one of those little black barkers) had broken lose chasing all the bypassers away. ;lol
I didn't came back the same way. Not really my territory. ;)
