[Buster's Uncle]

This one's mostly notable for the prominent photo of Buster's Grampa -he had a lazy eye for 40 years, and never got in the habit of cooperating with having his picture taken, so good ones of him are rare- and part of Momma's miniature tea set collection at bottom.

You can't see it very well in this, but on the next-to-bottom shelf, in front to the left, is a casting of a piece I did for Mylochka of her dog Diego  laying head-to-tail against Momma's dog Polly.  Alas, neither is with us anymore.

Obviously, Mother is rather fond of nick-nacks...

Polly really did lay that way.  The piece benefitted from a good paint job by Mom.  The long end of the base is slightly longer than the palm of my hand, but only barely.

Detail work is tough at that scale, lemme tell you.  The ears were murder, and I never did get the legs quite to my satisfaction.  It didn't help that I wasn't looking at photo references as I went.  Pretty good likenesses, considering.

I've been up against the same thing recently - one of the little dolls Mom came home with a few weeks ago was short an arm -cost 25 cents- and the sculpy was too soft to do nice proportioning/detail on an arm half the length of my pinky.

Olivia is an interesting case - several times, I've bought kits at somewhere like Hobby Lobby, that are a head and hands, and you're supposed to make a cloth body and do the rest yourself.  She's one of those.

I've actually got a mold for the head of a Buster doll made for quite a few years now, but never done anything with it.  I have a vague idea of a sawdust-glue mix for the casting, that we can paint and glaze like an old-fashioned doll.  It's really the materials issue that's held me up.

First, the Elizabeth I Barbie, as Rusty spotted...

The hairdo looks vaguely like something Liz might have worn - but not one any of us can recall, and she's a favored historical figure of all three of us.  Glenda Jackson left quite an impression.

So Momma redid her hair, for a start.  Other improvements as they happen.

Depends on the doll - sometimes, Mom didn't set out to make something difficult/complicated in the first place.
