I wouldn't call those creepy. I would say they have creepy eye make-up. Halloween at work aboard the Enterprise.

The Eat Your Heart Out Doll Tour continues - from the next room.  All doll clothes homemade, and I don't think you can see them in this shot, but there's three chainmail-wearing barbarians I made the real chainmail and real (dull) swords for...

Again, I have a theory about girls and dolls.

Girls like dolls.

-That joke cracks my 73 year-old mother (and you've seen part of her bookshelf, but not the shelves in her sewing room) up.

Girls do like dolls, but they also like other things. I had a lot of "boys' toys" when I was a kid - trucks, trains, and a wind-up caterpillar tractor that shot sparks when it moved... I got that thing for Christmas when I was about 3, and it scared the hell out of me.

I wish I remembered what that robot toy that would swivel and fire its chest weapon every few steps was called - it looked awesome in the dark back in the late 60s.

Came across an unexpected reference to dolls today.  Other translations of the Popol Vuh (the Creation story of the Maya) call the second unsuccessful race of beings the Wooden Men.  The translation I happened across today called them "doll-people."  Here is the passage:

And as the words are spoken, it is done.
The doll-people are made
with faces carved from wood.
But they have no blood, no sweat.
They have nothing in their minds.
They have no respect for Heart-of-Sky.
They are just walking about,
But they accomplish nothing.

"This is not what I had in mind,"
says Heart-of-Sky.
And so it is decided to destroy
these wooden people.

Hurricane makes a great rain.
It rains all day and rains all night.
There is a terrible flood
and the earth is blackened.
The creatures of the forest
come into the homes of the doll-people.

"You have chased us from our homes
so now we will take yours,"
they growl.
And their dogs and turkeys cry out,
"You have abused us
so now we shall eat you!"
Even their pots and grinding stones speak,
"We will burn you and pound on you
just as you have done to us!"

The wooden people scatter into the forest.
Their faces are crushed,
and they are turned into monkeys.
And this is why monkeys look like humans.
They are what is left of what came before,
an experiment in human design.

Unrelated to this, but still doll and Maya related -- Contemporary Mayans still make and use "worry dolls" that are supposed to listen to your problems as you sleep and help free you from worry.

As for the picture-  This is proof that people create  dolls with the intent of them stealing our thoughts!
