Jesus, Uno; I thought for once a poll with a simple, straightforward answer for me, but there's no actual "no" option...

So fix if you need.

My kids Talia especially will tell you Cinco de Mayo is a tradition at our house.

It's not what they think.

2014, it was the moment I gave up.

Severance had run out, officially on unemployment, been looking for work for 4 months, it was quite clear a solution wasn't going to come quickly.  Cooking every day for 4 months at the time, and falling into a routine as the house-parent.  I looked at everything and decided I had to give up Halloween, redirecting that budget towards other efforts around the house/kids.

So, it was in this rather depressed state I found myself with $10 in my pocket and no desire to cook.  hEt was working, Kyle was off somewhere, I rand and grabbed the cheapest thing I could think of: Taco Bell's 12 taco box.

We had NEVER been to a fast food taco place prior to that.  Hadn't eaten out since January.  I played it off to the kids that we were celebrating Cinco de Mayo (actual date was coincidence).  The kids appreciated the novelty.  Inside I had resigned myself to a bleak future, wondering how long before I'd have to be looking for a job at the taco bell.

Cinco de Mayo is my day to reflect on that.  Appreciate what I have and how things have turned out.  Remember I'm stronger for making it through the depression.

Thus, we returned to Taco Bell in 2015, myself, Talia, and Alec.  Ostensibly to celebrate.  Me to remember.

hEt's home this year.  We'll have to forego the Taco Bell for something she's able to tolerate...

Well, fast food being the way the industry is, you wouldn't even have to be good with people to work your way up to district manager, only good organizational skills, and that money, I bet, doesn't suck.

You are a winner, you know; that was all on the gub'ment, two years ago.

It's just, I'm neither ignorant of Cinco de Mayo nor hold it in contempt...

So... it's a reflective holiday, sort of like Thanksgiving without the extended family baggage?

Huh? Why would I celebrate the day after Star Wars Day?

Happy Cinco de Mayo folks.  In this land of quarantine and uncertain futures.

We need a taco smiley...

It's an interesting year of similarities.

I see myself falling into a lot of that rhythm from 2014 while working from home and it feels familiar and even appreciated, though being able to actually make money while doing it plays a lot into that.  Cooking at home in our new kitchen is often an adventure rather than a chore and had become the norm there as well, though I do miss the occasional dinner out with hEt.

Halloween is very much up in the air again like it was in 2014.  Hell, I've even procured some more fallen fences from the same guy that supplied them in 2014, and will likely be building coffins to sell off again.

We find ourselves planning for another potential unemployment nearer than further, and have just had to cancel our vacation.

Bottom line, however, there's no doubt that 2014 helped me prepare for the current situation.

Social Distancing your Halloween Display...  Although, you already did the Plague Mask Costume previously, I think you can come up with a way to combine it with some other stuff to do it up proud...  Maybe an Irradiated, Zombiefied Plague Doctor??

Well the last one was for Trevor anyway, so if I remade Trevor, may as well remake the rest.

I suspect if this comes back in the fall they'll likely cancel trick or treating.  The bigger blow to me would be the need to cancel the pumpkin party.  Otherwise, the work I'm doing for halloween  this year really isn't changing, though it's boring compared to most years.  No showcase pieces, but a lot of set work.  Probably the most set work I've done since 2008, and fancy new tools to make it happen.  I've been rather negligent in documenting it for reasons.

As a matter of fact, my sons and I just 2 weeks ago spent the better part of a day trying to figure out how to split one of the bigger pieces of raw material in twain.  (well, not exactly trying to figure out, it just involved a hell of a lot more wedges than I anticipated)

Well, if the party is done with social distancing in mind...  Maybe a permit to close that part of the street and use part of that for the party.  just brainstorming...

No, there's no way in hell.  If we're on any kind of distancing measures, the party is well over even the most lenient gathering numbers for distancing.

Someone in my neighborhood had a drive by birthday party the other day. Very cute. Lots of honking.

Last weekend there was some town in Germany with a drive-in house party. Everyone stayed in their cars, enjoying the music however they liked.
