A flame war over economics books?
Communism. I read in the California education code that schools cannot promote the postive aspects of Communism because it could undermine the federal government's authority.

I'm guessing that's a very old rule...

The people in California also enjoy the liberty to engage in drug overdoses in our homes without fear of arrest. The rules applies as we can call for help as long as we hide the drug paraphenalia outside of plain sight. We also enjoy the unalienable right to fish on state property (with a fishing license).

I had no idea about the drug overdose regs. As for the anti-commie propaganda law, they probably forgot about t.

As for books, we probably should take that discussion to the book thread, on the outside chance that somebody remembers reading about one, but can't find the discussion and therefore the book.

I realize you have a joking tone in the above post. The phrase "HippiesnFreaks," however, reveals a prejudice on your part about people from other states. The phrase reminds me of your comments about the time you spent in Texas and the desire to live in North Carolina(a.k.a. "America.") Why do you have such a distaste for different cultures in the country? I feel as though that presents an unfair fair stereotype of people in a state or country and denies the diversity of viewpoints that exist within a region. An example of conservative viewpoints in California appear in locations like Orange County, California and other rural locations in the state. I can understand the desire to resist any attempts of a people that force a particular viewpoint on a person, but a stereotypical view of the people often clouds the actual composition and motivations of groups that comprise a society.

Why do you think the south does not have reactionary policies? I see plenty of reactionary policies in the form of legislation that attempts to ban abortions and to outlaw the activities of lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and queer people in the south. I see it especially after the federal government made it legal for couples to engage in same sex legal unions.

ExSQUEESE me, sir -"This is California for you-" and "Reactionary up north, not at all reactionary in the south" are supposed to be read together- they pretty much Nazis in Sacramento and points north, right?  And pretty much left of Lenin down in your part?

You see [poop] on TV - DO learn not to believe in the basic competence of the mass media to give you the whole story about ANYthing, son.

I find the whole area of Los Angeles reeks of incompetence among politicians that work towards any sane legislation. The current governor of California, Governor Edmund "Jerry" Brown Jr., was also a governor from 1975 - 1983 and could serve another two terms because of a grandfather clause on the term limit restrictions. I would also like to mention that his father, Edmund Brown Sr., was our governor from 1959 through 1967. I smell career politicians everyone in the state, and I believe the diversity of my region results from its location at the intersection with Eastern Asia and Central America. I would call less the southern area as less Lenin and more like the region has larger income disparities than many other areas in the United States of America. The region tends to concentrate the poor in certain urban areas and rural areas while the politicians ignore the suburban areas where the majority of median income people live.

The northern portions of the state hold a vast array of Asian Americans and Hispanics until you approach areas north of San Francisco (Sacramento remains north-east of the most liberal city in California). The area around the Oregon border tends to trend back towards the predominantly Caucasian populations that dominate in your local area. I also doubt that the "Nazis" would tolerate the marijuana problems that regions in Northern California face.

For that matter, I doubt you would even recognize the ethnic composition of Los Angeles as reflecting the America that you remain accustomed to see in your home town. The whole state of California subsidizes the majority of states that have Republican forms of government. I know that we receive 78 cents back for every 1 dollar we send in federal tax dollars. States like South Carolina receive approximately 2 dollars in federal aid for every 1 dollar they send in federal taxes. I think you need to learn more about a diverse state before your myopic perspective becomes apparent.

You know very close to zero about my home town - you didn't even bother to get the state right.

We're not having this argument anymore.

I'm still waiting for some key mask-making supplies to turn up.  It's really irritating, though I haven't actually needed them yet.

So things are turning up for you? Cool!
