My first impression was a dog. It could be personal bias,

That's the thing about dogs, though. Due to human managed un-natural selection, they have more variety than any other species. Quite a snout spectrum between bulldogs and speed hounds.

Definitely - but there is a big difference in a cat muzzle, whiskers details aside.  Cats have a prominent flat nasal ridge.

I've found treating the eyes more feminine help read "cat".

Good point.  Rounder eye holes definitely read more 'dog', and pointed ends, shorter and pointed end turned up on the outside, 'cat'.

If you told me it was a seal or sea lion...

I'd say "that's cool, I like the blue."

I think this is the next-to-last pic in my Masks folder before I have to dig through the boxes and take more...

Blue kitteh.  Buster was asking for animals a lot right before she moved to California and after.  Make a little muzzle, and easy enough to do.  I can't be sure, looking at the shot, if it's not a dog - there is a difference in the muzzle, though.
I fervently support the idea that BUncle sort through boxes to find more masks. Dig, BUncle, Dig!  ;woohoo

And for the last thing before I take the take more pictures, a DotD mask Mylochka did in a black and white design...

She had me trim them in a variety of ways, for the variety.

I think this mask would fall under Unorthodox's area of interest because it relates to Día de los Muertos. I further have a hunch, based upon the variety of masks shown, that BUncle's family has participated in the creation of costume pieces for a mulitude of occasions.

I have a 12 year-old niece who used to be even younger, and Mylochka wrote/directed a lot of academic plays before she retired.

I'm and actor, and of course, Momma, who sews like crazy, has done a LOT of costuming.

I found a great picture to complement the festival described above.

Someone should paint some real dogs like that.

Or make a real dog a mask and vest and paint it like that.

That does look really cool.

Bad news - I finally went through all the boxes I have, and I'd actually already took pictures of all the masks I can lay hands on. (Did a little organizing and threw away a lot of packing material that made it hard to know when I'd reached the bottom while I was at it, so not a waste of time.)   We gave a couple to aunt Pokey back in February -and were rather thrilled she liked some enough to ask, 'cause she's a real, multi-talented, artist with an actual art degree to boot- and there's some stuff missing, for sure, from the move from Texas - but all I'm certain of is some plaster bases I use a lot, at very least to hold up half-mask store templates while I'm working on them.  I wanted all along to take photos of those for Uno and anyone else interested in actual details of how I work, not least with various snouts, human noses and other sculpey facial appliances designed to fit them.

All I remember having a picture of that I haven't already posted now is a small feminine wig-dummy face I cast in plaster as a possible base, but have never used.  Today I found the plaster gauze outer mold and latex lining I cast it from, so I want pics of those, too, but that's all I've got until some missing boxes turn up in Mylochka's stuff.  -I really want those missing bases before I work up to making more masks - I'm used to them and all the appliances already on hand fit them.

There's actually a whole lot left of various things I use in the work left to shoot, but the two bases are central to my process.

The boxes tended to be packed in a MOSTLY organized way, so there might be a few more masks to photo when the bases turn up, but don't hold your breath.  There are definitely a few I don't know about giving away, and we never actually sold one...

I only had time to skim your thread for pics, holler if there's specific ones you want me to add over there.

Technological advance is an inherently iterative process. One does not simply take sand from the beach and produce a Dataprobe. We use crude tools to fashion better tools, and then our better tools to fashion more precise tools, and so on. Each minor refinement is a step in the process, and all of the steps must be taken.
