A new faction
« on: April 03, 2015, 01:42:27 PM »
I'm going to start a new faction. The basic idea was is a cross between the Believers and the Spartans.
Based out of setters from Europe and called the Templars. I was thinking something like this for abilities.
Robust Effic
Immunity Fundamentalism
++Morale
+Support
immunity to mind control
something like
-growth
-economy
+200% Probe costs
What do you guys think?

Sounds too strong, but (most of) the properties fit well for a Spartan/Believer combo.
Where did the 200% probe cost came from. Doesn't really fit with the rest. And the Robust or Penalty parameter might be better instead of a straight Immunity for Fundamentalism.

The reason I wanted a 200% probe cost is i wanted them to be immune to mind control
but have a contempt for such methods themselves. Immunity to fund is the only way anyone
could ever take it in the game. Its just so weak.

The look? I did actually but I'm not sure how i'm going to pull it off.
The leader is going to be male (probably) and I'm going to use the cross
as the logo. Cities themselves I might use Miriams or more likely I'll just use
some of the bases I found here.
I might go with
++morale
++effic
--growth or --economy

Robust Effic
Immunity Fundamentalism

I think you mean Impunity to fundamentalism.

Quote
++Morale
+Support
immunity to mind control
something like
-growth
-economy
+200% Probe costs
What do you guys think?

++MORALE means that they can't reach max MORALE without Power (or Thought Control), but with Power (or TC) don't get the bonus for Fundamentalism.  Better to have +MORALE and Fanatic.

A huge increase to probe costs also doesn't work so well with fundamentalism.

What tech would they start with?

Also, the Believers and Spartans are close enough already ideologically that having a cross between them doesn't really make sense;  ;miriam; really essentially is a "templars" faction.

I was going to make my own version of a Fundamentalist faction.
Besides the Spartans and the Believers really aren't that close.

I think I've finally found a collection of bonuses and penalties I like.
++Morale
++Effic
--Planet
and probably immunity to mind control or fanatic.
Pro Power and may not use Green economics for religious purposes.

Right now Im working on the city names next is the graphics.

Bear in mind I have my own personal mod. I altered Fundamentalism extensively.
As far as Tech I'm honestly not sure.

Not incredibly close, but it'd be difficult to really find much room between them.

What does your mod look like?

Its mostly little changes to the governments. I'm always fiddling with it.
Currently Its
Police ++Police ++Probe -EFFIC
Democracy ++Support +Morale - Research
Fundamentalist ++EFFIC ++GROWTH -Probe -Police
Free market ++Effic +Economy -- Planet the rest are mostly unchanged.
Tanks are moved up to where Ascetic virtues is and mines have an extra nutrient to help the AI.
Some of the other factions I've tweaked a little. Like The Drones are more aggressive and the Believers lose the - planet because its stupid. I was thinking of renaming Fundamentalism Republic thats more or less what it is.
Democracy doesn't impress me. Its mob-acracy.

I'm wondering how you justify Democracy having a support bonus or a research penalty...

And how does fundamentalist get a penalty to probe and police?

Democracy having a penalty to research? Thats easy. Democracy is simply an early version
of thought control. Controlling the masses by letting think they have a voice. The problem is it only works
with an population of sheep. This type of two party "Democracy" is exactly what the founding fathers warned us about.
Fundamentalism (should be called a Republic) pretty much gets out the peoples way and lets them find their
own prosperity. The penalty is of course a loss of security and control.
This is a personal mod of mine and one I'm always fiddling with. I was leery of fiddling with the governments
too much for fear of what it does to the AI but it really doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

But even so, it doesn't preclude independent thinking and therefore shouldn't come with a research penalty; in fact, it is more compatible with independent thinking than most other forms of attaining stability.

All governments attempt to control the masses in some way; in order to justify a RESEARCH penalty you'd need something that quashes research more than the other approaches.

So then that's not fundamentalism at all, by any stretch, but rather a different government you're using instead of fundamentalism...

The sea is everything. It covers seven-tenths of the globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert where a man is never alone, for he can feel life quivering all about him. The sea is only a receptacle for all the prodigious, supernatural things that exist inside it; it is only movement and love; it is the living infinite.
