Of course they all had money-making as their primary goal. That's what any business does, and Star Trek was, and is, a business. It just happened to be a business with a conscience, and some of the workers were very creative people who wanted to do the very best job they could (I'm primarily thinking of the TOS cast who thought up extra things for their characters to do or wear or say).

But nuTrek? They're strictly in it for the money. Sure, it's nice that Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy became friends. But Quinto will never be more than a Spock wannabe, with even less credibility for me than some of the people who have played Spock in the fan films. The fan film people are doing it for free, and they would never have agreed to that abominable garbage that was STiD.

BTW, someone posted this image on another forum, about James Doohan:

Creativity doesn't get much emphasis when milking a franchise. Which is their prerogative but I'm just going to get bored and wander off (with my money) when they do.

I detect some kind of RL political statement in that one, but I can't put my finger on it.

Kirk was pretty damn chipper for someone who just had a leg amputated with no anesthesia and not knowing that he really wasn't back in time.

Chaos on the Bridge.

Playing on Netflix. A little documentary behind the scenes of TNG. Especially the first seasons and why they suck so bad.

Well, that's crap.

Thank goodness for fan films. I just saw the latest episode of Red Shirt Diaries today.

Um.

I'm not sure what that was.  Really confusing marketing considering the target audience at the very least.

Any new word on the upcoming series on insert some paid subscription I don't plan on getting here?

Very nice, but got me wondering.  WAS there ever a Christmas special in star trek, or is that something society had moved past?

So talk about Star Wars is pretty welcome here, until such time as it might take off and need its own thread.  Raiders is more of a genre stretch, but we're, honestly, talking about escapist adventure stories in all cases, so what the heck.  Start new threads, post in this one - it's all good.

"No time for love now, Dr. Jones!"  ;lol
I'd rather Star Wars had its own thread, to be honest.

So is the latest series going to follow the timeline of the latest movies?

Quote
The original Star Trek spawned ... five successful television series.

So if a series had at least a second season, that counts as successful?
Your agonizer, please.

I hope not. If it does, I won't watch it.

What I do hope is that this isn't going to result in cease-and-desist orders for the fan films. I'm really enjoying the Star Trek Continues series, Red Shirt Diaries is a hoot, and for all the fan-politics going on, Axanar looks pretty interesting. Phase II/New Voyages plans to release a couple more films at least, so there's lots to look forward to... all of which is based firmly on Original Trek, not that Abrams, et. al. garbage.
