Meh. This is a rather angst-filled thread on TrekBBS, but in all honesty I never liked the character, was glad Kes (and the actress who played her) left, and am not particularly upset by this. Actors are human too, and it's not like she was one of the major players among the cast or made much effort to reach out to the fans.

Star Trek Beyond: Paramount Pushes Back Release Date of Upcoming Movie to July 22, 2016
Rumor has it that the Beyonder was committed to Marvel Studios, Buzz Lightyear wouldn't even return their calls, and then Beyond bailed and wouldn't loop lines in post.

Bed, Bath and Beyond is allegedly suing, according to court documents for, quote, "stinking up the trademark", unquote.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is talking trash to the trades, in hopes of publicity and making a comeback.  -Critics are saying it's probably, indeed a better flic, just like it claims.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes is still the best movie.  "Nothing beats the mutant worship service," it told Variety, "and we had the most depressing ending ever until Zira dropped the baby into the water in Escape."

-Advance word in from insiders on the embattled production has it that the beginning and middle of Star Trek Beyond is more of a bummer.

I enjoyed the character of Tom Paris from Star Trek Voyager the most of any participant in that version of the show.

The problem with Paris -and this is the problem with absolutely EVERYthing about that show- was failure to commit.  He was supposed to be Arnie Becker from LA Law, a screwup, a talented guy with poor impulse control.  They TALKED about Paris being a screwup, HE talked about it all the time, but didn't let him actually screw up.

He'd have cheated on Torres about 15 seconds after they got together, for one thing, if it was real/realistic/well-done - and then you could have done an angry B'lanna story, which would have been one heck of a lot more interesting and in character than the limp, boring relationship we got for the remainder of the run...

Hey - a heads up; I say in the OP of the Flash Gordon thread that the three Buster (no relation ;)) Crabbe movie serials of 1936-38-40 are required watching for Star Wars fans, or they don't REALLY get Star Wars, because it's what Lucas made when he couldn't get the rights to Flash - and you see right there in the serials what he was making a high-budget modern version of.

Also?  They're REALLY good-n-awesome in their very primitive way.  It helps if you're eight the first time, but worth watching entirely for themselves.  (Also, the complete run of the late 70s Filmation cartoon is posted, also worth watching.)

Well, in a recent re-posting of two serials that had been taken down since the thread began, I discovered there was a Flash Gordon TV show for two seasons in 1954-55 that no one seems to ever mention, have posted a bunch of episodes, and this morning, I said this:

-I'd still like to sentence everyone who ever said Star Trek's special effects -only 12 years later- or ANYthing about it were "cheesey" to having to watch the entire run of this for a sense of perspective/historical context.  ST makes this show look like a kindergarten play.
-Word to the wise...  Embedding an episode of this or Captain Video, or Rocky Jones: Space Ranger is a devastating reply to kids and fools who say that "cheesey" crap like it means anything but that they're ignorant...

Star Trek Eye of the Tempest
Only just now getting around to watching this.

Reaction as of 6:04:
Shiporn poorly animated - the ships are too agile, which gives no sense of weight.  Spare me the movie music.  Not a promising start.

...Who thought Klingon ships fire their disruptors from the nacelles?

People put a lot of work into this thing, it's plain - and it's a pity they felt they had to find a part for everyone on the club, none of who can act.  The script is dull, the pacing is leaden, and the sound mixing is incompetent - I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any important lines, but Jesus; turn down the music and background noise while people are droning out their dull dialogue.

the ships are too agile, which gives no sense of weight.

While you've definitely got a point, one of the things I always found disappointing in Trek was the lack of agile craft.  (and yet they still call for 'evasive maneuvers' at the speed of a slug, which never seem to do anything)  No, by all means, NOT the capital ships that define the Enterprise, but something.

I mean, we basically got battleships firing canons at each other.  While there is something to be said for this, it's just not exactly fun to WATCH.  Meanwhile, I much prefer the Star Wars and Battlestar Gallactica more carrier type combat, where you have various classes of ships from fighters on down to battleships.

That's not to say Trek is INCAPABLE of providing these kinds of scenes.  Going back to First Contact, we have a most wonderful battle scene where the smaller, more agile ships take on the borg cube.

There's also a few and far between scenes with Klingons using hit and run tactics to great effect scattered about.

My favorite, however, happens to be from DS9, when the Cardassians come to reclaim DS9, and the huge fleet taking on the station and resulting Federation counter fleet later.

Oh, how I wish that the quality of the shiporn was my primary complaint.  This was such an inept mess; leaving aside all issue of poor execution -not everybody can do the semi-pro stuff we've gotten spoiled watching- the script wasn't ready.  There's too many unrelated ideas crammed in, doing justice to none of them.
