A space katana.

Insert Klingon joke here?

I had more issue with Spock losing his [poop] at every yo mama joke than anything else.  But I don't remember anything at all about the 2nd (was there a third?) installment.

I didn't see the second, but I understand it involved a "cold fusion" bomb that literally froze stuff, Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan, Carol Allen as a weapons expert in her underwear, Khan's buddies hidden inside photon torpedoes, a lame reversal of the death-of-Spock scene from TWoK, and a lame reversal of the lame reversal in that Kirk was revived by Khan's blood running through a tribble or something.

There was also a second sequel called Star Trek Beyond but I'm not sure if anyone saw it and I had to look it up to confirm that it was a thing.  I vaguely recall my brother complaining that dune buggies were involved?  Dunno.

Oh yeah, I looked it up on Wiki and they defeat some kind of drone swarm by playing "Sabotage" at it because I guess the drones have good taste or perhaps cannot tolerate puns trying to masquerade as irony.  Or both.

I'd also thrown out that I think Shatner was a somewhat better actor than he gets credit for, and two other people made joke replies, which was good enough for me to react with:

Shatner can act, no question.  And he can carry a show.

Nightmare at 20000 feet is THE classic TZ piece BECAUSE of his acting (and later Lithgow).  Not to mention his stints on Thriller and Alfred Hitchcock.

At the risk of being flogged, TOS really DOESN'T have good writing or directing.

My mom is/was a huge Trekkie, but at one point in my childhood I recall her tuning into some Star Trek rerun (it was one where a glowing alien light-ball entity had invaded the Enterprise or some such) and McCoy growled a line about people "having atrocities committed on their persons."  It was such a wooden line, uttered so intensely, that Mom cracked up with everyone else.

Eh, the writing varied, especially by season.  Some of it was excellent.

The fight choreography, BTW, was horrible.

Day of the Dove.  Swordfights in the corridors with Klingons, yes?

I don't recall anything except there was an unconvincing ball of light entity, some kind of fighting or other trouble aboard ship, and McCoy was not happy about the atrocities on the persons.  I think I was like eight.

I don't think the article at the link gives Star Trek nearly enough credit for even trying at the height of the civil rights movement in the late 60s -that took a little courage from a lot of people- or how well it was done, w/ many attractive dignified and educated people of color it featured here and there --- but this is a pretty good critique of the shortcomings of those efforts, w/o even observing that Uhura was basically a secretary...  Worth reading.

I'm not sure if I've inflicted this upon you all yet.  Warning: blue/occasionally tasteless/still quite funny IMO humor.

Planet's Primary, Alpha Centauri A, blasts unimaginable quantities of energy into space each instant, and virtually every joule of it is wasted entirely. Incomprehensible riches can be ours if we can but stretch our arms wide enough to dip from this eternal river of wealth.
