Alright.

Second decent snow of the season.

WHERE. THE. HELL. ARE. THE. PLOWS?


It's not like we are some idiot city that sees snow once every 5 years here, people.  We SHOULD be prepared for this.  It's not even a LOT of snow, but what is coming down is the very slick type of snow. 

NOTHING was plowed yet. 

Correction.  Work's PARKING LOT is plowed.  Just none of the actual ROADS.  In fact, most business parking lots were plowed, it appeared. 

Result:  15ish mile drive:  35 cars off the road, several of them SEVERELY off the road and down in a ditch.  10 car pile up on 193. 



While I'm on the subject: 

Toyota, what the hell is your "Traction control" system thinking?  And why does it automatically reset once I gain traction so I have to manually turn it back off every stop light instead of it staying off?  And when I turn it off, why do the alarms still go bonkers?  Yeah, the tires are spinning.  I know.  Welcome to snow.  They NEED to spin sometimes.  Alarms and bells and flashing lights in my face aren't helping anything.  The system might work decent for run of the mill driving, but it has made this car the worst one I've ever owned for driving in snow.

Oh joy, and they just released a wind advisory for tonight.  Tomorrow will feature 75+ mph winds.  Awesome.

Base never did plow.  And now there's 3ft drifts on top of the icy non-plowed roads.  Some kind of miracle I didn't get stuck.

Well, getting an upgrade in the camera after all.  The Pentax wierdos have their own little classified section and someone posted up a camera permanently modified for ye olde manual lenses like I was about to do to my ist for only $50 more than I can get the parts for the ist.  It just happens to be 3 generations newer than my K100 at the same time and double the resolution.  Might just sell off Bertha if the thing proves adequate in low light.  Wouldn't sell the ist, too many issues with it. 

Funny thing (keep in mind these are mostly birding, landscaping and macro photography buffs) I had to join the forums and make a couple posts before I could buy the thing.  You can tell the young guys from the old ones. 

Young guys are baffled at the quality of my Halloween night shots.  My camera is supposed to be "crappy" at low light because of the noise at high ISO.  Man, the digital age has made some lazy photographers...Photography class these days is more about how to photoshop what you got into something good than how to take something good in the first place.
