Not a bad start at all, if somewhat more labor intensive than I figured.

Even the garish white overhead light gets pretty good shadow play.

I know you were pushing 'Sid', but we've gone with "Trevor the Transi".

Especially fitting since he/she has got skeletal features of both genders that's not worth really going into.  It's just one of my private jokes, like the big smiley faces that are on the two Bobs.

How are you going to bond Trevor to the lid when you get that far?

Monster mud is fantastic stuff, it's what the Chimera is made from, and he's survived quite a lot.  When I add the shroud/blanket underneath, we'll give some extra monster mud to adhere Trevor.  Plus, the monster mud shroud comes up and covers the privates, note.    This will securely fasten Trevor to the lid...provided monster mud sticks to foam (tests forthcoming with the Pleurants I'll be getting to this week/next weekend)

Then, the entire lid is going to get a coat of mod podge, with cheese cloth embedded in it.  This seals everything, providing the first layer of protection, and fuses it all together.

Then, the entire tomb is going to get several coats of Dryloc (a very heavy latex masonry sealer with with sand embedded in it) to give it the stone look.

Then paint as needed.

You're going to go for a bare gray stone look?

Ok, back to the drawing board on these Pleurant.

My means of attaching it to the tomb while it dried proved to be no robust enough, didn't support the arms good enough, and by the time I was done getting it set, they got squashed.  There's a hole behind this pleurant now, probably going to have to scrap the entire wall and start over.

Good lessons learned.  I've already got a better means in mind to make them.

Ah, the joy of failure.

Got the "hey, you're the crazy Halloween guy from down the street" at lunch today.  Smart phones have really changed that reaction lately.  As normal I left my card so they could give the website to their friends they're busy telling about my yard.  However, in this day and age, they have the website up and sharing pics in seconds.

High school grads talking Halloween in March.   :D  Told them to come buy for Walpurgisnacht.  I'm hoping to have the tomb presentable by then, but will have something up if not the tomb.

"Walpurgisnacht"?  I'm not familiar with that...

Never read Faust?   ;troll

Also know as Hexennacht, Witches night.  April 30th, night before May day.

Bram Stoker has a marvelous tale of that name as well.  Originally part of Dracula, it got cut because Dracula was too long, so he turned it into a short story.

http://www.spike.com/video-clips/g6oux1/bram-stokers-walpurgis-nacht

It's "The other Halloween".

In Germanic tradition, Halloween marks the last night we mortals can harvest the field for the season, for the otherworld season is beginning, and you light fires and dance in furs to confuse the emerging spirits.  Walpurgisnacht, likewise, is the last night the otherworld is allowed to harvest, for the mortal season is beginning, and you light fires to scare off the witches collecting their final souls of the season.

Meanwhile, Tali is scared of the Pleurant there, and Jen want's me to keep it.

Alec had basketball tonight.

His team has not been very good, and tonight began the 'playoffs' for this little league.  Everyone got to play in the playoffs, and they played the same team they played last week.  So, last week, the opposing coach came up after the game and asked if our team wanted to play this week, or if they would rather just go out for a pizza party with his team "because let's face it, there's no real point in playing".  Our team had won all of 2 games all season, had just lost to this team for the second time by 14 points.  Our coach didn't say anything, just gathered the team and asked them for a vote.  They unanimously voted to play the game.

Karma is a [complaint or disagreeable woman].  I had to smile as this same coach started screaming in the final 2 minutes of the game, down by 2 points, and our team matching them basket for basket.  It was most amusing.   I do feel bad that the other team left in tears, though.

Of all the moronic scheduling, our team plays next week at 5:30, but the winner of that game has to play AGAIN at 7:30 against a rested team.

Amusing swear filter definition for a hundin there.  Having been raised with a breeding [complaint or disagreeable woman] who's offspring won westminsters, I've always found that particular word rather strange in the vernacular, though.

How can Talia be afraid of anything by now?

It's good when karma's a [complaint or disagreeable woman] on your side.  I'm glad you find the swear filter thing amusing - I thought defining the terms filtered was hella-funny compared to boring old asterisks...

It's always interesting what gets to Talia.  It's never predictable.  Probably has a lot to do with the fact she didn't see me making it.

I'm definitely feeling pleurant trial #2 MUCH MUCH better.

Secret was not attempting to mud it right to the tomb, I can attach them easier later.  Also seperated arms, body, and head so there's 4 pieces of cloth on this thing to get better layering.

The Isle of the Deep is really not a single creature but a colony of thousands of individual tubules, an aquatic vector of the Mind Worm which terrorizes Planet's continents. Over its lifetime certain tubules secrete a tough, gluelike substance which hardens to form the characteristic shell that floats the colony and creates the appearance of a rogue island.
