There was a spot the plows had left a line that was up over my bumper you just had to barrel through with enough momentum to see the other side...

6 slide offs passed on my way and one stuck crossover type.

I actually blame the new safety features on a lot of newer cars.  MY Toyota is annoying as all get out with what the computer is trying to do to control slipping in the snow.  Like I understand to a point what it's doing but it would get me stuck at the same time.  I drive in manual override by default in snow. 

hEt's car has similar features that annoy me as well, though it's less noticeable by engaging 4wd in the snow.  It will still do some things that IMO make things WORSE in certain scenarios.  I also don't know where the manual override is or if it exists to do much comparison.   

Alec's is old school manual transmission no smarts nowhere. 

Kyle's is AWD with no smarts.

It's moved beyond antilock breaks to whole computerized traction control systems that literally override you stepping on the gas. Sorry, a lot of snow driving requires spinning tires to maintain control. 

I cannot imaging the whole automatic breaking systems, lane assist systems taking over stearing, or the Tesla autodriver [poop] being able to process anything with snow well.  Overall, they likely do present a net positive for reducing crashes, but I don't see them being good in snow because I've felt them all before and don't think it's set of inputs would work well in snow.  The lane assist was having trouble with construction zones, what will it do when the lane is whatever people has decided it is in the snow. 

The storm will be largely wound down by the time I need to move again.

Early reports are it wasn’t terribly wet snow so only an increase of ~5-10% water wise.

Interesting chart to compare the snow to past years.  Plotting against '84 and '86, two notorious flood years shows we're right in between them for this time of year, though the flooding part has a lot more to do with how fast it warms in the spring than how much snow you had in the winter.

Woke to another 4-6" this morning.  They're saying another 4-8 by Wed, and 1-3' more in the mountains. 

Interestingly, we're just barely keeping on pace to have 130ish percent of normal with these storms.  Snowpack typically peaks in April when we start the melt off cycle normally.  Looking at the charts for the last decade or so it's an earlier and more rapid melt more than snowfall totals that seem to have been causing the bigger problem, coupled with continued diverting of inlets to the lake. 

My older brother's newer construction has been forbidden from putting in a lawn for a few years now due to the drought, and I hear the woes of how bad it's been since he's just left it as a dirt pile for the most part (other than the ill conceived garden in the back yard). 

Meanwhile I'm over here xeriscaping as fast as I can afford to and looking to get rid of my lawn all together/switch over to a thyme lawn.
