I dunno.  I always thought she was plain-on-purpose... Maybe not quite an Amish approach, but definitely a stern Calvinst one.  I don't see Miriam going for ornate at all.

That hair is getting somewhere, but does it need a touch more thickness/txture/body and more volume at the top?  It's a bit straight for Miriam.  Her nose just might be a little long, too.

I think you're definitely getting closer. ;b;

Posters in the style of this.

I also found Domai's head to be a little too tall, not enough meat on him as well.

You know what I'd like to see...since I saw someone takes requests...

A semi-lit, dark alley, more like a corridor, somewhat confined. Three soldiers with impact rifles are shooting down the alley, two are left-handed and is shooting from a position on the right, and the right-handed soldier is firing from the left side (so you can see down the alley). Of the two soldiers on the right, one is standing and firing and the other is crouched and firing as well (shows teammanship). The corridor is at a T-intersection (so the soldiers are firing from the corners).

From the left side, you'll see the figure of Santiago, brandishing an impact rifle. She's looking towards the viewer (you) and shouting orders. A couple of impact particle bolts are flying down the corridor from the far end to the viewer (so it looks like you're being shot at, as the soldiers are trading rounds).

I have a hard time finding a suitable image if my description, but this is somewhat similar to what I'm thinking of...

If that was produced, it could end up being quite an image. It could be propped up as being part of one of the prologues (where Santiago is organizing the overthrow of leadership), or an attack on an enemy base, or defense of Sparta Command, or whatever.

EDIT:
After I wrote this, I had an *idea* for a SMAC promotional video...all CGI rendered.

Sci-fi text increments across the screen, saying:

"MISSION YEAR 2168
MORGAN INDUSTRIES BASE
CHIRON, ALPHA CENTAURI SYSTEM"

The scene starts with a Missile Needlejet screams across the terrain at 550kph about 500m from the ground. The camera tracks the aircraft for a couple of seconds, then as the plane dips further down, it comes up upon a brand-new Missile Rover racing across the terrain, mostly flat with some gradual hills. The plane pitches up and to the left, then right towards the looming base of Morgan Industries, which grows larger and larger just over the horizon. The needlejet continues towards the base, fading out of view as the camera follows the Rover, which is at the front of a pack of identical rovers, all moving at high speed.

The lead Rover leaps off a slightly steep grade as the camera slows down the action to about 500 to 1000 frames per second, showing the Rover and two others up in the air. Text scrolls up on the screen, as earlier:

"NEW DEVELOPMENTS:
ELITE MISSILE ATTACK ROVER
SPARTAN FEDERATION"

As the Rover nears the ground, the action resumes its normal pace. The camera swings into the cockpit of the Rover, showing three soldiers, one a female. All except the driver (who has an appropriate rifle nearby) are wearing atmospheric suites and are carrying clean Impact Rifles. The camera scrolls up to the view of the driver, showing the heads-up display with a slew of information, including the speedometer showing a speed of 116kph and rising. (Real-life military rovers, called Light Strike Vehicles, can hit speeds in excess of 140kph (80mph) across dirt terrain) The camera, acting as the view of the driver, looks over to the passenger, with the camera quickly switches over to the view of the passenger, who then looks over at the female soldier in the back. It is Colonel Santiago, and some orders are barked as the units blaze over the terrain.

In a couple of seconds they're upon the outskirts of Morgan Industries. The rover slows down to 10kph and Santiago and the passenger disembark. The rover continues on a little further, about 100 meters further down the outskirts of the city. A couple of impact bolts fly past the former passenger driver (now called "you" from now on) and you quickly raise your Mark 4 Impact Rifle and squeeze off a handful of rounds, dropping the soldier off about 200 meters off. You continue, sprinting hard as Santiago follows close behind.

In a short time you come up on a few other soldiers trading gunfire with the enemy. The scene then picks up on the description I described earlier with the alley (with the soldiers and everything). Santiago barks a few quick orders, and you fire off a few more rounds blind down the alley. Soon you turn around to spot the Missile Rover you rode in come up behind you. It fires off a salvo of missiles down the alley, causing chaos and havoc down the corridor.

The enemy is shattered, and return fire is extinguished. Santiago and your group of soldiers race down the alley, sprinting hard. Your group comes across an intersection with a central structure, kind of like how a roundabout would be laid out. Your fellow troops split left, a couple coming with you to cover the right as the Missile Rover follows closely in the tight corridor. Movement is sighted on the corridor leading to the right and you along with your teammates return fire.

Down that corridor, a door starts moving from the ground upwards, to close off the alley. On it, is the Spartan Federation logo with the text "SPARTAN FEDERATION" below it. Another door starts from the top, progressing downwards, covering the former door, with the text "SID MEIER'S ALPHA CENTAURI" inscribed on it. The scene starts to fade out as gunfire and a missile salvo is heard in the fading sound.

/ end /

If I had money, I'd probably pay to have a group of CGI artists make that scene. I think it would be pretty good.

I would always appreciate more art of the original seven faction leaders:). Perhaps some artwork that show Morgan, Zakharov, Deidre or Yang rather than simply referencing there factions?

Morgan does have quite a bit of advertisement style clips in the game, though I wouldn't mind seeing more of them. The one I really want to see is what Yang does in his spare time/daily run of business. Deidre I can imagine pretty easily and Zakharov would probably be giving lectures or overseeing some wacky research, and Miriam would probably be going to Church related events and praying.. etc.

Could imagine a really cool one for Miriam just about now actually,

Setting: Interior of a church, maybe have a face of some angel or the virgin mary, something female, and then have Miriam walking down the hall of it. No one else is inside it currently, you can hear her foot steps echo throughout.

Maybe have some quote, not entirely sure, she says something, and then the camera zooms out from a tilted position (looking down originally) and gets the view of the entire empty church, and fades. Maybe even have the church or something pretty run down, battered and broken, like as if she reclaimed a lost base that was lost either to another faction or planet infestation.

Finally looked at the whole thread. Some nice stuff here, though the latest version of Miri reminded me of a chimpanzee face.  ;lol

In game of course, they're all duplicitous slimeballs, every one.

Part of that might just be the extreme AI on higher difficulty levels...

Actually, I think it's interesting in that every faction has both positive and negative interpretations...

Have been working on some "Ladies of Alpha Centauri" wallpapers -- appropriate for your desktop, hopefully.

Nice. ;b;
I'd say Aki is spot on, Miri looks an age she's about to join the Heavenly Diocese, Roze collar might be a bit too elaborate but the face matches sufficiently. Deedee and Santi are the least convincing. Santi mostly because of the eyelashes and naked shoulder, and deedee looks too... Asian...?

You're welcome, BU!

Geo -- I tried a new texture for Sister Miriam.  I don't have many textures that are appropriate for someone with red hair, so I wanted to experiment with this very nice one with subsurface scattering.  The facial features have not changed at all, but it makes her look a lot younger.

I did several renders of the models.  I'll be posting more soon so you'll be able to see how angle and lighting changes the appearance.

Way better 'diagram' on the left side of Aki now.

Have I posted these?  Muffy Tepperman's a reasonable approximation of Deidre.

Proper care and education for our children remains a cornerstone of our entire colonization effort. Children not only shape our future.. they determine in many ways our present. Men and women work harder knowing their children are safe and close at hand, and never forget that, with children present, parents will defend their home to the death!
