Out shopping for Talia's Christmas.

I know Mylochka's talked about repainting Monster High Dolls, but the new Fairy Tale High dolls are probably a better target for that kind of thing.

They are essentially Monster High, only "not creepy".

Not that creepy is a problem for Talia.

I also saw the creepiest dolls in a retail store.

2 faced dolls...I'm not sure how you flip the faces, turn the wig around or what, but 1 normal face, one monster face.

They had vampires and shape changers, but it was the zombies that were just WRONG.

(Caveat, I have not actually watched this)

I saw the Fairy Tale High dolls the last time I was at Wally-World and facepalmed appropriately.  If only I had waited!  I bought used Monster High dolls a while back.  Just haven't felt well enough to work on them yet....

Oh. I looked at the site. They're two-faced in a god Janus kind of way. Just turn the head around backwards while holding on to the wig. The wigs pop on and off, so you can change them.

I was on my semi-annual antiquing trip and discretely took a few pictures.

Where's this?  I'll give Mylochka a heads-up.

They were seen in various antique malls in Pennsylvania.

#1 is supposed to be an Amish child.

Clowns have a certain creepiness because they are disguised, so they are probably up to no god, or they are hiding from the law.  Clown dolls have a certain compounding effect.

I have a new theory about Cupies. They are actually imps. This one is striking an "Elf on the Shelf" pose.

You know how some primitive culture believed that a picture or photo could steal your soul?
I think that's part of the creep factor. Sometimes dolls look like trapped pieces of a person's soul. Maybe they switched bodies...

Okay. The Enterprise looks weird cruising below the doll shelves.

Good to know.  -And agreed that clowns are "probably up to no god".

Some manner of homunculi are present in the mythology of virtually all cultures - interesting intersection with dolls and the Uncanny Valley effect, I think.

Grrrr. Feel free to point out my errors.

There were more dolls, I just tried to get the standouts.

I missed one. This was supposed to be an effigy of a university Chancellor, as I recall. They probably did want to steal his soul.

Look at any photograph or work of art. If you could duplicate exactly the first tiny dot of color, and then the next and the next, you would end with a perfect copy of the whole, indistinguishable from the original in every way, including the so-called 'moral value' of the art itself. Nothing can transcend its smallest elements.
