Mr. Hu wishes to formally note his disappointment that all three of you gentlemen are on FB, yet this morning, there have been no reactions or shares of the post in question thus far.  The revolution begins with one man with a vision - and it stays stuck at one, nothing, until some other people board the bus to make it a movement.

Serves you right for not finding my Antarctic stuff.
Besides, I've only recently became active on fb again, so have no clue how it should or should not act.

. Yeah it’s dependent on the targets setting. I was about 60% successful when talia was mailing that flat talia thing around, tried to tag everyone/haunt it stopped at.

Fun fact - I'm having profound intermittent problems with my machine today.  Balky and freezing up completely.  Restarting the browser didn't help for long.  Restarting the computer didn't help for long.  Shutting down completely and starting didn't help for long.  Errands and my brother and my big mouth talking to Momma has delayed my daily schedule, too, and several more browser restarts and one outright crash later, you know what seems to have finally made it go away?

I closed the Facebook tab.

The thing I fail to understand about Facebook, is why do most people think they need it for anything?  "I want to talk to friends and relatives."  What's wrong with email?  There must be something the mass public finds very uncomfortable about email, to spend so much time avoiding it as a medium and choosing something else.  Is it that most people need "purdy pictures" to do anything?  Yet, people can send purdy pictures in email just fine, and indeed an iPhone can do that fairly quickly, as you take them.  I don't even own an iPhone or any kind of dumbphone, and I know about this capability.  Sometimes I've borrowed my Mom's phone and sent a picture to myself, because it's simply a better camera than anything I currently own.

I swear I don't get it except for a universal interests gathering place for casuals and grannies on the nets that's taken over.  -Otherwise, only good for spamming forum links and contacting my partner and t_ras, mostly for tech stuff.

I have been in touch with a cousin out east that way this week, and that's how I heard about Uncle Ronnie Tuesday morning - which is exactly what Facebook is mostly for, casuals and Grannies.

I post jokes for my friends and family to see. If I sent them an email every time I thought of a dumb joke, they would get mighty annoyed.

I use GMail's Priority Inbox, so in principle I'm capable of sifting out a "jokester", so that it's not clogging the top of the "important" email I need to attend to.  In practice, I haven't done it.  I generally distinguish between the handful of human beings I care about, and impersonal / institutional emails.  I did have a friend who was doing a lot of jokes for awhile, and I considered making a special folder just for him, but it didn't quite reach the point of pain to get me to act.  I can understand why people wouldn't want to futz with custom filters for a particular person, as even as a techie I resisted.  The general interface of clicking on the Priority of the email, saying this is important or not important, is convenient and works fairly well.

Most of the "unimportant" stuff I get are political mailings from organizations trying to get signatures and donations out of me.  I read them to the degree I care to, and I sign some of them.  I'm pretty jaded nowadays as to whether the signatures do any good.  I think they are mainly building targeted mailing lists to solicit funds.

Maybe Facebook doesn't really solve the "dumping ground" problem.  Instead, people accept that it can become a noisy and spammy environment, because it doesn't serve the purpose of important communication.  That might make it symbiotic with email in many people's minds.  Myself, I mastered the internet in an earlier era when there wasn't any Facebook.  Already knew how to put my Inbox on a diet, even before I got the Priority Inbox thing.

I'm always telling people -mostly Mom and back when the function still existed in my accounts- to train the filter marking 'yes spam' or not.  I can't beLIEVE most people never bother to glance at their spam folders and delete -or move to inbox when it was wrong- PROMPTLY.

For me, Facebook mostly takes the place of AIM and other chat services that aren't really a thing anymore. Statuses are like away messages, and I can casually chat with people privately or publicly.
