My facebook is almost ENTIRELY dedicated to Halloween and bugs.

NO political commentary outside of the occasional link to snopes debunking things some of my co-workers believe.

My Facebook serves only five purposes:

- Keep tabs on folks I knew a long time ago but are no longer in my life due to marriages, moving, etc. It beats trying to keep track of phone numbers which can change.
- A poor man's background check.
- A way if someone cool from my past wants to find me they can.
- Inferior skype alternative..
- A news feed for folks if I go through some event like floods, etc to let them know I am okay.

I try not to post anything that trigger nosy people like political statements, (ir)religious views, or drama towards other people. Anything that can could put me in a bad light. Certain powerful people like landlords or employers can be really petty and judgmental.

I do not spam someone else's meme or stories. Nor do I post stupid, narcissistic stuff like my every travel or my meals. Is it just me but do so many people just not make their own content for their own page? I would rather put nothing unless it is something I think folks would care about.

I don't respond to half the stuff I WANT to.  Better safe.

My Facebook friends are friends, family, and roommates (the last only because we have a FB group for coordination of house stuff). My privacy settings are such that my posts can only be seen by friends, and I basically only post jokey stuff and blog updates. Nothing serious or political, with a couple exceptions (when I graduated, the day after the election, etc.).

I desperately wish more of my Facebook 'friends' had that attitude of never discussing politics on there.

We are in a place in today's society where people get offended very easily. Some of this stuff is really stupid too. I guess it is just an attempt to make life simpler by categorizing things to know what is cool and what is not without having to think. I understand. But, the truth is actually more complicated and requires looking into and reading which folks have no time for.

I can always unfollow and keep them on friend list if there is any real news of them I want to know and still have access to PMs if I need or want to PM them. Most of those folks are just parroting things they believe to be true. Sometimes this is hilarious like one dude I know fanboys over a certain politician that actively does everything in his power to make people like him impoverished. Truth is, unless you are rich or important, most politicians really do not care about you. It is impossible for any one person's circle of concern to spread that far even if the politician does have some good things he or she wants to do
The politician or party is not PAYING you. Why give them free marketing?

Not everyone is like that, though...

One of the guys on my freindslist makes me feel bad. It's not that he posts political stuff, though he does some time. This guy was a dishwasher in a place I worked at in the mid 00s. He was learning German and had a propensity for expensive beer and was a great guy. Fast forward. This guy lives now in Austria and makes and sells custom violins. He travels from European country to European country smoking great Amsterdam weed and great German beers and bangs model- looking euro chicks.

What have I done with my life? Makes me feel like I am boring and suck. LOL!!

About to go up on my Facebook personal sock account:

Quote
Fun fact that only I in the whole world knew until last week when I told my mommy - I burn too much time every day playing Wack-A-Mole with the stuoopid 'suggested' EVERYthing on the right sidebar in my timeline.  Facebook, which has such sophisticated software that it knows an obnoxious and scarey amount about me from riffling through the junk email I gave to establish this sock account full of misinformation about me out of a concern for privacy on Big Brother Facebook, unmistakably does not give one single damn about user preferences while giving its all to pry into my personal info - the several-times-a-day Wack-A-Mole features suggested page suggestions I've been closing for years, literally YEARS, some of them, and lately  has been suggesting GUN groups, JEsus Christ, and the buy and sell group suggestions for months have been featuring a fun feedback popup that doesn't close when you hit send, which a few days ago got more buttons and a random arrangement added as, no doubt, an anti-bot measure that happens to also burn extra of my finite human time finding "Not relevant" "Spam" -and "Offensive" for the guns- each and every suggestion I close.  And the' close' buttons are small so I sometimes accidentally VIEW stupid suggested pages instead, with the extra page-load time not spared, and it's even caused me to somehow accidentally hit 'Join' buttons, too, before I could back out.

That right there's Big Brother Facebook all over for you - they change how crap works here profoundly every few months w/o notice nor any avenue whatsoever of appeal.  The times I've found how posting links to stuff on on my forum on my forum's page works profoundly changed are too high to count.  I've been missing the page-top 'browse and post as' pull-down available if you manage another page, which was VERY handy sometimes, for years - and I just realized that though there's a select for which of the two pages I administer and my personal sock I like and comment as on each of those pages, there's NO way to like a friend's art posts on my timeline or his home page as my ART page - and he has the same problem with his HOBBY page.

What's never changed is constantly putting my timeline setting back to Top Stories from Most Recent where I left it because Big Brother is definitely WATCHING me, but of damns given about what I, a user whose views and content they make money off of, wants, there is. not. a. single. one.

I implore every human being who sees this and doesn't resemble a character created by George Orwell to 'like' or whatever, and/or share the post - I seriously am not interested in comments about my mild OCD tendencies, or really, the actual subject at issue - the point is to get this considered complaint about the fundamentally crappy and unacceptable attitude of Facebook that it reads my email but not my user preferences in front of as many eyes as possible, and add your own thoughts to any post shares, and we need to speak up and MAKE SOME NOISE.  Right THERE'S your avenue of appeal.
-Only Uno, Rusty, Green and Lori, among you, will have a chance to see this directly from me.  -So I'm asking everyone else on Facebook to do up a copy/paste - and take credit or say where you got it, add any thoughts you like - whatever.  Time to stir excrement up and see if we can't get a protest started that Big Brother can't ignore.

Well, BU, it is kind of a fact Facebook does not really like the small hobby page or art pages.

They want you away from these pages and towards the big business pages. The ones that pay big bucks for Facebook services. They scan your keywords and interests to make sure the proper big business is in your face.

Oh, not a day goes by that I'm not reminded on my halloween face that I could spend $$$ to reach more people.

Which...you think gun groups is bad...I get necrophiliac groups dude.

Along with the normal stanist (I noticed the typo and am choosing to leave it) and furry stuff.

Now for fun, go try to tag someone (or another business/hobby/art page) as your art page.  (your ability to is dependent on some settings on the tagee, I think) I KNOW I USED to be able to, and had a list of links to other Halloween folks as a result.  I don't know when that got deleted as I'm not terribly active.

Mr. Hu wishes to formally note his disappointment that all three of you gentlemen are on FB, yet this morning, there have been no reactions or shares of the post in question thus far.  The revolution begins with one man with a vision - and it stays stuck at one, nothing, until some other people board the bus to make it a movement.

Well... it's durned if you do, durned if you don't.

I kind of have to have it to stay in touch with people. I run a local Dungeons and Dragons group, try to hawk clay goods at arts and craft shows with missus Green, have cousins and stuff to keep tabs on, etc.

Yeah, I do run more of a risk from FB getting a portfolio on me to (try) to sell me junk. Yes, I stand an increased risk of some potential money source looking up my FB and being offended by who knows what... Not that my FB is very controversial. Yeah, if I break the law or something, they will give the cops all my PMs including drunken PMs to silly girls 6 years ago I made a fool of myself on. But, I do not plan on using my FB for any criminal enterprise.

But, the positives outweigh the negatives. If they want to make some money off this service, so be it.

I submit, sir, that I intend to continue to use Facebook for the same reasons as always - but what does any of what you say have to do with Facebook being a bad user-hostile interface, while wonderful at gouging and spying, because it ignores moby dick issues of user service, and we ought to kick up a fuss about that in hopes they'll learn to leave my timeline settings alone (and bother to fix all the other crapulence I mentioned)?
