Yes their is, but I felt I should play a relatively authentic, chesse free game of SMAC. This to me means setting the retirement year to the standard 2500.

Dio, a thing to be thinking about next time is giving the reader more of an overview sense of how the faction's progressing.  You don't have to show every little thing or anything, but to my casual perusal, I had little sense of plot or the big picture of the whole game.

(This could just be me - I've not been getting enough sleep for about two weeks, and AC2 has just had its busiest month ever, which means I can't take my time and I'm not at my smartest right now.)

Yes.

In alpha or alphax txt files in the SMAC/x directory there is an entry in #rules. There are two settings there, one for the lower difficulties, one for the 3 highest.

Looks like this and it is towards the front:

2100     ; Normal starting year
2600     ; Normal ending year for lowest 3 difficulty levels
2500     ; Normal ending year for highest 3 difficulty levels

change then enjoy.

Be sure to keep a fresh alpha or alphax if you change something. Not sure what happens if folks play MP with different txt files.

BUncle, please make sure to take care of your self by getting enough sleep. I probably do not need to say that two weeks of sleep deprivation sounds like it would be bad for a persons' overall well being. . Also, I will definitely take the advice you have given me.

I usually manage six hours or so - I'm sleepy and headachy a lot, but that's plenty enough to keep from exhaustion or going crazy.  This is pretty normal for me when I'm in an especially energetic mood.  I sleep until I wake up. y'know?  Thanks for your concern.
