Taking requests for pacifism drones rules
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:47:18 PM »
I've heard a few requests for alternate rules for when units produce pacifism drones, and I sort of like the idea myself, so either my next patch or the one after will include that.  Basically, you'll be able to set different rules depending on whose territory the unit is in; one rule will be for your territory, another for a pact brother's, a third for any other faction's, and a fourth if it's not in anybody's territory.  I'll be allowing up to 16 different sets of rules, but I only have 13, so I'm taking requests for the other two.
If there are enough requests, I may exclude some of the less useful ones I already have.

What I currently have for the current possibilities are:

1. A unit in this type of territory never produces pacifism drones.
2. Armored aircraft without Air Superiority.
3. Any armored unit.
4. Aircraft without Air Superiority and with at least 2 attack.
5. Any unit with at least 2 attack.
6. Aircraft without Air Superiority and with at least 2 attack or 2 armor.
7. Any unit with at least 2 attack or 2 armor (so it excludes unarmored noncombat units and "scout" 1/1 units.)
8. Combat aircraft without Air Superiority.  (This is what is currently the rule for units in your territory.)
9. Any combat unit (this is currently the rule for any unit outside your territory.)
10. Combat or armored aircraft without Air Superiority (so armored gravship formers would count, but unarmored would not.)
11. Anything except for unarmored noncombat units (i.e. those that take a noncombat penalty.)
12. Any aircraft without Air Superiority, even noncombat units.
13. Any unit in this type of territory will cause pacifism drones.

So...anything else you'd like to see?

How specific can the "types of territory" be? Territory of neutral factions? Unclaimed land? (thinking of airbases outside own territory here if these don't cause drones atm)
Certain landmarks?

Just by whose it is, and anyone who's not a pact brother has the same status, whether you have treaty, truce, or vendetta.  Unless there's substantial demand for more categories, that is.

Why, what rules did you have in mind?

Sorry for the OT, but Yitzi, I haven't told you how much we appreciate you today, and we do.

As you were, men.   :salute:

I was just wondering if it was possible to let the use of +PLANET or GREEN social engineering let a faction have extra drone trouble when entering landmarks like the Manifold Nexus, Borehole Clusters, and such.
I know it's circumstantional, but I'd like to think certain mindsets in citizens should create trouble for its leaders when they're doing things that are NOT DONE, seen from a social engineering point of view.
Even better would be the use of things like boreholes and echelon mirrors for green factions. ;)

I'm not so sure that makes sense; if Cult troops enter the Manifold Nexus, they'll clearly be respectful enough that nobody's going to get upset.  Likewise, if someone is running Green, it may be presumed they're doing everything they can to minimize the ecological effects of their borehole use.

In any case, it would be a big deal to code something like that, and it probably would be different than pacifism drones anyway (after all, something like that would apply even when running Police State/Green, when pacifism drones don't exist at all), so it may be feasible as a later request, but not as part of the pacifism rework.

This is more for changes like "make it so that 1/1 scout units don't create drones when in neutral territory" and "make it so that aircraft in your own territory don't create drones" (both of which can be done with the options I already have planned.)

'kay. Just wanted to know how easy it was to implement such specific things. Btw, these were just general examples. I realize it would be closer to life to have citizens of a faction running free market let riot when utilizing say the Manifold Nexus.

Do these flags (which I haven't changed) follow the OP descriptions?  If so, how does a colony pod which just left my territory cause drones for Morgan Antimatter? (v2.3b)

5,       ; Pacifism rules for units in owner's territory or in bases {0 to 15}
11,      ; Pacifism rules for units in pact brother's territory {0 to 15}
11,      ; Pacifism rules for units in unowned territory or with truce/treaty but no pact {0 to 15}
11,      ; Pacifism rules for units in enemy territory {0 to 15}
Your agonizer, please.

Thank you for finding a bug.  I just posted version 2.3c, which fixes it and should be available for download as soon as it's approved.  (I accidentally put it in the general resources folder rather than patches, though, so if someone could move it that would be appreciated.)
