Early pods trigger massive deluges of the entire planet
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:05:57 PM »
I'm playing in two MP games right no - Last Man Standing:

http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=2523.150

And in both cases, me and another player (Green1) by popping pods triggered massive floods which are not on the list of possible pod results. Instead, they use the dialog for 'bases submerged'.

#BASESUBMERGED1
#xs 440
#caption Chief Planetologist
Tidal waves near $BASENAME0! $BASENAME0 has been submerged and lost!

And then I always lose HQ, nearby units and the entire huge patch of jungle around.

I've never before met such an event, although t_ras mentioned he have. Maybe it's a fault of his copy? He created both scenarios after all, although so far only me and Green1 experienced this.

To Green1 once, to me it has happened four times already. Then I noticed something unusual - the flood affects all starting points (the maps are symmetrical) in the same way, flooding huge chunks of the land and probably also affecting the jungle.

The last time I managed to take several screenshots. It was also quite an odd pop - for the first time, a regular pop (earthquake) happened after the initial flood. So one bugged event was followed by one normal.

This all happened over the course of four turns, from 2104 to 2107.

I think these are all the details I can recall.

The game is still on - should I upload the screenshots and saves? Is it fine just to hide the pics in a spoiler section?

For what it's worth, I'm around all the time, and will try to keep an eye out for anyone from that game having a look.  I know I'd like to see the screenies.

I trust other SMACers 100% and I bet my money there'll be no foul play, I just don't want them to wander here by mistake before their morning coffee. ;)

Sorry, never done this - how do you actually upload screenshots here?

So here they are. The first one presents the dialog window, the second one - another pop event from the same pod (earthquake), and on the third one you can see the aftermaths - compared to the first pic, the entire map is affected.

And the password to both games is:

Please share you thoughts! I know I've never met this issue for many years of SMAC/X playing, on various copies, legal or not, on various computers with different OS. And now four times almost in a row....

I tried loading the games and grabbing pods, and encountered no floods.

Well, it's still a random event and reloading the turn usually helps - I haven't experienced it twice in a row so far. Considering that in both games there are a lot of pods lying around, I guess I popped 1-3 of them every turn and got 4 floods over the course of 7 turns - not that a high chance. I just uploaded the games and shots to provide full materials possible.

Sounds like one of the random events is malfunctioning and producing the flood instead.  Does it matter which pod you use?

hmm.. the flood may be related to the scenario if the map was not built starting from a random generated one. (scenario editor bug)
Anyone else feels like it's time to fix the faction graphics bug?

It may be, both maps look like created from a scratch. Is it a well documented bug, something you experienced, or just an educated guess?

Nope, it happened at several different pods, all of them fine after the first reload. Interesting why the other two players haven't had it already.

it's a well known scenario editor bug. senior CMNs can confirm it. i don't know if this is what you are experiencing though..

I can confirm this. Also, through years of Single Player have yet to see that event except in that game.

Although, Kirov, I did not notice it took out everyone else's stuff too. That would have been hilarious if I would have just stuck with it and turned over a save like that ;lol
