Autosave option not working in SMACX?

I started a series of SMACX games this week, but have trouble letting the autosave feature work.
It seems to work just fine in SMAC, but for some reason this doesn't work for the SMACX games I started. It always either crashes, or loads a very old save from years ago.

Is there a setting I'm missing? Or is this something I can enable in the preferences file?

I bet, like all modders, you have more than one copy of the game - make sure it isn't saving or loading from the wrong copy.  I've gotten that before.

You have something there. I have 4-5 versions in the same GOG folder.
