Snow cream?

As in fresh snow with a little maple syrup?

At least you don't have to open the fridge to stay warm. ;-)
On my way back from 20°+ to less than 10°. It might even be freezing tonight.

So, heard some bad news about Lancer.  Came here to see if true - that he passed from Corona.

When I got here hit the "view last read" and it was March 2018... wow, how time flies.

Rest in peace, Lancer. I have fond memories of a Civ4 PBEM with him as a worried but reliable neighbour.  ;b;

Sorry to learn of Lancer's passing. I always got along well with him, even when I disagreed. I haven't thought of him for a while, but it's usually in connection with pools and pizza ovens. Thanks for informing me. At least I can say some prayers for those he cared for.

BU, the smiley is in especially poor taste given the circumstances.

As for the virus-

My nose has recently improved. I can smell the stench again when I open a can of cat food. I can smell the thyme again when I open a box of seasoned crackers at arm's length. When I taste a glass of wine, I feel like I'm tasting most of it. Before I was sure that I was missing most of the subtle flavors.

Its been over a year since your last (known) Covid infection, hasn't it?

Yes. I caught it Christmas Eve of 2020. Last I heard, my Sister-in-Law and her daughter who caught it at the same family celebration still can't smell much of anything.  I had a very gradual recovery, and I would say my sense of smell is adequate now, although it still isn't what it used to be. To be fair, now that I'm in my 60s, nothing much about my body is what it used to be. Maybe full recovery was an unrealistic expectation.

Out of morbid fascination how has the diminished smell effected taste?

Literally the taste/smell thing was/is nightmarish.  As Covid has really ramped up my cooking hobby to the point eating out....There's a few italian places I can't quite match, and very few others that I'm ok with to avoid doing dishes, but otherwise generally I'd rather just cook it at home because it's so light years better than even the fancy places.

Legitimately, I'm rather good at French style cooking now, am coming along very well on Italian, and have been picking up some Japanese (largely for Talia's bento meals) while dabbling in some Carolina style BBQ with our smoker.  It's kinda funny how much my fundamentals have grown just switching from the eating out 1-2x/week to once in a blue moon under covid.  Even some meals I thought I had down pat years ago are better with my improved fundamentals.

The hospital numbers are finally starting to die down to the point where mandatory overtime is being lifted for hEt.  While overall a great thing, there's been some wonderful monetary opportunities that last few months where she was getting 2-3x pay plus bonus to show up.  Where she primarily works NICU they're still seeing that mothers who had covid during pregnancy are more at risk of going into pre-term labor, coupled with Utah's natural increase during the pollution months of snowless winter, so she'll likely still be doing plenty of overtime.

I think next week will be her first weekend off since before xmas if that holds.  (normally only supposed to work every other)

Mask orders being lifted...I'm waiting for the call to get everyone back in office, but it hasn't come just YET.
