What does everyone think?
« on: October 22, 2016, 09:05:52 AM »
Just as the title says. What do people think of the game? Played through my first game as Germany.
Did well. Won by cultural victory. The game looks nice. Plays well. The only beef I have with it so far is the disappearing builders.

Lol its not a bug its a feature. You get three uses out of builders and thats it.
The leaders are interesting. Gilgamesh looks like a pro wrestler. Queen Victoria
looks enough like my boss its creepy. Tomyris is a female Cossack version of
king Theoden from lord of the rings.

The builders thing is just a way to make sure you spend hammers to improve your land.  Along with the districts, they divert more hammers to the land so that one unit per tile doesn't become too crowded.  I like the theory, not sure the cost is right.

I see some serious balancing in the future.
Lots of little UI things to be adjusted.  Little, but a lot of them.  Same with cross data on multiple screens - useful, not needed.
MP options - need more.
A few, non-game-breaking, bugs that I have seen so far or read about.

Overall, a solid product.  The 1 unit per hex is to me a real breaker - although they did come up with a way of merging units - that needs balance still.  I expect I will be like many, play for a while, then put away a while, and bring back again, and so forth.

Theres a lot of little issues with the game. Things like UI issues cant adjust the cameras with WASD, no build queue.
Things like that. There is a clock and thats nice.
The Maps seem small and the game seems to want to crowd you as usual. The AI seems ok, its more aggressive at least.
One of the big issues is spies. The game will eat you alive with spies and you either need to be very anal with your
district placement of build a legion of spies. Its very annoying. Then theres the issue of having to give them new orders ever 5 turns or so.
Its very annoying actually. The other big issue is the AI cant handle 1 UPT. But it never could. Its a good game but it needs polish.

I find it a steep learning curve, especially the tiles and placement of buildings. :(

WePlayCiv has an excellently indexed Compendium as well as (currently) one PBEM Game, 2 learning objections games (PUG and PUG-lite), a Democracy Game and more.

Another issue is some features are basically easter eggs and not explained at all.
For example. Apparently factories give a production bonus to all factories within 6 hexes.

Havent played in a while - work - family - moving, but when I had to stop I was still feeling OMTS. Running power to my new command center as we speak, one of the first things I am going to do when is done is fire my game up :)

Look at any photograph or work of art. If you could duplicate exactly the first tiny dot of color, and then the next and the next, you would end with a perfect copy of the whole, indistinguishable from the original in every way, including the so-called 'moral value' of the art itself. Nothing can transcend its smallest elements.
