This one smells true, but too little info.  Knife Wielding clown gets confronted by random guy, who grabs the knife and finds it wasn't a fake.  I don't even know if it really qualifies for the bet to be honest.

Jones’s fear was not misplaced. Today, the Empire Herald reported the clown-related first death. On Tuesday, October 4, Newark, NJ, police responded to a report of shots fired. The reported to the scene to discover Carlos Mendoza, 31, lying wounded on the entrance ramp of Oraton Parkway by Vailsburg Park. Mendoza, who was dressed in a clown costume, had been shot in the head around 10:30 p.m. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

They say that he had been wearing the mask in the street and they are not working on the theory that he was linked to a Killer Clown-style attack.

The driver of the car was unharmed and police allowed them to carry on

We didn't word the bet carefully at all - I meant murder/intentional violence, and wouldn't consider myself to have won if it was random chance - maybe panic-related misadventure, maybe...  -Like, an accident/death that only happened because someone overreacted in fear might do it...

Empire Herald made the work computer scream warnings and shut down.  I'm guessing it's not a legitimate source.  No New Jersey newspaper or TV site is covering a clown shot in the head.  That wouldn't happen in this climate.

Lancashire Police said the force was investigating the incident.

A spokesperson said: 'We have had it reported to us that a 28-year-old was walking home alone in Haslingden Road, Blackburn, at around 8.45pm on October 9, and has been approached by someone dressed as a clown.

'It appears the clown has pulled out a knife which the victim, from Blackburn, has tried to grab.'

The UK tabloids are trumping up this that the victim is a kickboxer who went nuts attacking the clown and he's lost use of fingers from the assault.  No real source on the severity yet. 

I know even the tabloids in UK can't run total BS.  They have to have a source.  (unlike here) Doesn't mean it's a good source, but it would track that random citizen tries to attack pranking clown holding a kitchen knife, only to end up wounded.

Simon Chinery, 28, said the masked attacker sliced his right hand "down to the bone" with a 10in blade damaging four ligaments.

Father-of-one Mr Chinery claims he was walking away from a service station cash point when the clown crept up behind him.
 
Mr Chinery, who works as a joiner, said he grabbed the knife to stop the clown doing any serious harm to his body and his fingers "exploded" following the altercation.

He was taken to hospital for doctors to try and repair the damage.

Mr Chinery, of Blackburn, Lancashire, said: "I had never been so petrified in all my life. It has left me feeling sick to the bottom of my stomach – it was literally something from a horror movie."

The incident, which happened in Blackburn City Centre on October 9, involved a clown which Mr Chinery describes as "petrifying".

He describes the clown as dressed in a green wig, with black eye make-up, red nose and red beard. The clown donned a green jacket, white fitted top, big black boots and rubber latex gloves.

Describing the attack, Mr Chinery said: "It wasn't a mask of sorts, it was more scary makeup.

"I just panicked when I saw the knife – he pointed it towards me and I just used my instinct by grabbing the knife and he pulled at the same time.

"In that moment I think I just wanted the knife away from me, I could have been in intensive care or worse if it had slashed my neck.

"My fingers then just exploded – there was blood everywhere. I didn't know what to do because it all happened so quickly, but the knife just sliced it down to the bone.

"I just ran home and my mum called for an ambulance."

As Mr Chinery, who was later taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital, fell to the floor he tried to punch the attacker with his left hand – as the clown ran off.

Doctors told Mr Chinery that they do not know the long-lasting extent of his injury and will need to carry out reconstructive surgery on his hand.

Mr Chinery said: "This attack has ruined my life – I am disabled from this and cannot return to the trade and job which I love.

"The doctors have already told me I will never get the same movement out of my hand I had before. I've lost my job – I might have to have several operations to remove ligaments from my leg into my hand.

"You can still see the blood coming through on the dressing – it's awful. I'm going to look into compensation. That's all I can do now."

He added: "I am just glad it was me and not my nine-year-old son or my young nieces or nephews."

Asked what he thought of the clown craze sweeping the UK, Mr Chinery added: "I was absolutely hysterical when I saw him.

"I'm a former kickboxer so it wasn't as if I'm scared of clowns – I think it was just seeing the knife which was the shocking thing.

"People behaving like this really need to stop – I have been having nightmares and the pain is unreal. This clown craze is getting out of control."

Lancashire Police are investigating the incident, but are yet to interview Mr Chinery.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We have had it reported to us that a 28-year-old was walking home alone in Blackburn, at around 8.45pm on October 9, and has been approached by someone dressed as a clown.

No arrests have yet been made.

Happened at an ATM.  So, this could be prank gone bad or attempted robbery gone bad using clown hysteria as a cover.  Or kickboxer making up a story on why he's been cut...

A teenage boy attacked in a ‘killer clown’ prank has warned that people could die as the craze sweeps the country.

Owen Russell, aged 17, was left covered in blood after a branch was thrown at him by a clown trying to terrorise people in Dinnington.

The six form student, from Anston, said he was lucky not to have been killed or to have lost an eye in the attack.







He said he and a group of his friends spotted the clown, who had a ‘sinister laugh’, on a path off Scarsdale Street on Tuesday night.



 
When challenged by the teens as the clown approached them, the masked attacker walked off carrying a branch before turning round and hurling it at the group - hitting Owen on the side of his head, and leaving him with a V-shaped wound which needed stitches.

“I felt my head and there was blood everywhere. I had to take my T-shirt off to try to stop it while my friends chased the clown, but he got away,” said Owen.

“He started to run once he realised he had hit me. He knew what he had done but he didn’t stop. There was blood everywhere.”

Owen said he was lucky not to have been seriously injured or killed.

“I could easily have lost an eye or been killed - this clown craze has to stop now, it’s getting out of control.

“I’d heard about clown sightings in other parts of the country but would never have expected it in Dinnington. It was a bit surreal and freaky when we fist saw the clown in the distance but then to deliberately hurt someone takes this craze a step too far.

“People doing this to frighten people need to stop before somebody dies.”

On the same night there were reports of a clown chasing a group of children in Dinnington and earlier this week a pregnant woman and toddler were also reportedly chased. Reports have also been received of a clown armed with a baseball bat frightening people while driving around Wickersley with clown music blaring out of their car.

Owen’s father, John Russell, said: “This clown thing has gone too far, it’s getting ridiculous. It’s pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

“Owen was badly injured but it could have been so much worse. I was shocked when I saw him covered in blood. The branch just missed his eye by a matter of inches. “People dressing up as clowns and doing things like this need to stop now before it’s too late.”

A police investigation into the incident is underway. Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

NEWARK, NJ – A man dressed as a clown was shot in the city’s West Ward last night. The shooting was reported just after 10:30 p.m. by Vailsburg Park.

Newark police were called just after 10:30 p.m. last night to Oraton Parkway and S. Munn Ave., near the Parkway North entrance ramp, on a report of a shooting. When police arrived they found a man in a clown costume shot in his head in critical condition.
 
A spokesperson for the Newark Police Department said a silver SUV, driven by an African-American male, pulled up alongside of the clown. According to the spokesperson’s statement, the man got out of the car and fired several shots. The man then got back in the SUV and headed north on the Garden State Parkway.

“This isn’t the first shooting that’s happened around, resident Earl Johnson said. “They happen often around here, but never involving a f**king clown.”

The spokesperson said he doesn’t know why people are dressing in clown outfits, but he said he suspects fear is a factor across the city.

“I just think it’s insane. People better take those clown masks off before the coroner does,” Johnson said.

The victim, who has been identified as Carlos Mendoza, 31, was transported to University Hospital were he was pronounced dead. The suspect in the shooting has not be identified however authorities are actively searching for his whereabouts.

Stabbing 'victim'



Just felt like pointing out, this kind of injury can happen when holding a knife in the 'psycho' scene position and stabbing, because your hand slips from the handle DOWN onto the blade.  I think there's more to this story, but doubt it involves clowns.
