A fellow got arrested in Union County, NC, yesterday afternoon for going into a convenience store to buy a drink and scaring the clerk.  Police found a hatchet in a bag on him.  -The story is that he was up to no good, telling the po-po he was on the way to scare some friends, but the store encounter was innocent.  He was charged with second degree trespassing and released.  He had much of the clown makeup still showing on his neck and around the edges of his face in the mugshot; appeared to be going for something of a orange-haired Joker look.  Saw this on the afternoon TV news, so no link...

Another near miss.  Man fires gun into air to stop clown from approaching.   It was just a lady walking her dog.  unfortunately no pic of dog lady for clown comparison.

alright, I've been looking for very specific things with this clown thing. 

Slenderman become a big problem when the ARG cropped up, thats when the girls got caught up thinking its real and killed.  There's a lot about that ARG thing that is just scary nasty and I don't like to post about it for fear of perpetuating it.  (not all ARG's, but that Slenderman one had some real nasty crap.)


This little unassuming bit makes me think that's now starting with the clowns.

With minimal effort (as I'm aware of what I'm looking for), I've found a dozen rabbit holes for clown ARGs. 

HOWEVER, this is a new haunted event gimmick, and given the news and season, I don't think any of the one's I've stumbled on are more than marketing for haunted events around the nation.  Nothing like the Slenderman one was.  Yet.

Kind of like some of the older D&D'ers used to do...  Dressing up and playing out a scenario... with the DM setting up and guiding from the shadows...

At the most basic level. 

At the more extreme end...it's something more akin to The Game.  Cheesy movie that it was. 

The most newsworthy one right now is The Tension Experience.  Run by the creator of SAW I've yet to hear 2 people have the same story of that experience.  Presently running a one night experience, but it started with a weeks long one.  People were stalked and messed with for a week or more.  Called at work.  Emailed photos of them eating dinner, and eventually some were even abducted off the street and thrown into an experience with actual well trained actors.  But you don't know who is actors and who is players. 


The slenderman one specifically got down right nasty, getting dirt on players and using it to blackmail them into alienating their friends/parents before going further into the game.  It read more like a psych experiment than a game.  And that's only the parts that have been made public.

Other than the subheading (and a historical case of a killer who happened to be a clown on the side) is there even a reference to the death in that article?  I only see a fluff piece on the overall phenomenon.

99% sure the death in the subheading was the one I nixed above, too, given the date of that one.
