Ifn' I had the time, I'd got track down my post where I predicted this was going to be nothing, but escalate with people taking it too seriously.  The initial reports were all false, and a few got in trouble for making false police reports.  We've moved past that now. 

Clowns hit Utah yesterday, and 2 schools went on lockdown because a student made a fake facebook profile with stock clown photos and threatened violence.  (in another school lockdown, a man with a gun was seen in the area and the school shut down.  It was in the sticks, and it was a duck hunter...) 

So, a quick google tells me we're getting closer to my prediction coming true. 

Some very very stupid people of my own persuasion are considering (I'd be surprised if any hadn't started already) escalating the problem by dressing and lurking in public too, so soon there's going to be "real" clowns out there as well.

It is REALLY REALLY TEMPTING to seize on this idiocy.  I've been GIVING CLASSES on how to do creepy clown for over 20 years.  I could nail this down so hard it wouldn't even be funny.  And, it is the season to prank and scare people.  I even discussed the possibility of making as a clown for my yard this year in light of these events.  It's all kinds of bad news, I know that.  hEt knows that.  Others are not fortunate enough to have that sense.

Tracked down the origin.  I think.  I remember the Wasco clown, and he had several copycats but kind of died down.  Then Gags seems to have escalated into the current epidemic.

Yesterday some sort of clown twitter account made threats about some area schools. Deemed to be intended as a hoax to disrupt school operation and not a credible threat.

Edited the OP to capitalize the title - mostly so it would stop looking like "downwatch 2016" in the root while topped, which is actually what I initially thought it said this morning...

-Of COURSE there are copycats cropping up, and of COURSE some of them are being stupid about it.  Has anyone actually gotten hurt yet?  Matter of time.
