How do you deal with migraines?

I don't even have my most useful drugs on me right now...3 hours till I can get home to those.

I had them for a few years around the end of high school, and the only thing I ever found that did any good was to sleep it off - drugs probably involved.  Women's craps medication, like Midol and muscle relaxants seemed best w/o going prescription.

Aspirin usually takes the worst off for me, actually.  I only had 1/2 a dose on me today.  Coupled with tylenol it's doing an ok job.  I had to walk away from music man, but he's been silenced in my absence.

Acetaminophen doesn't do anything for me. Luckily I don't get migraines, they sound rather awful.

I've had them for about 40 years.
Depakote twice every day as a preventative (also for seizures).
Zomig as a remedy when aspirin doesn't cut it.

I'm a sinus headache guy.

My wife gets migraines. The best answer is Sumatriptin.

As a head nurse once said to me, "It's easier to stay ahead of pain than play catch-up"

It works better to get her to take the drug when she gets a headache with light sensitivity, than wait for it to get debilitating,

Man, they're more than just a headache - I don't really see how drugs could head them off...

Sumatriptan is structurally similar to serotonin (5HT), and is a 5-HT receptor (types 5-HT1D and 5-HT1B[6]) agonist. The specific receptor subtypes it activates are present on the cranial arteries and veins. Acting as an agonist at these receptors, sumatriptan reduces the vascular inflammation associated with migraines.

The specific receptor subtype it activates is present in the cranial and basilar arteries. Activation of these receptors causes vasoconstriction of those dilated arteries. Sumatriptan is also shown to decrease the activity of the trigeminal nerve, which, it is presumed, accounts for sumatriptan's efficacy in treating cluster headaches. The injectable form of the drug has been shown to abort a cluster headache within fifteen minutes in 96% of cases.[7]

So, that's how it works. My wife takes pills, but there is nasal spray and injections, too, apparently.
