Star Wars Saturation point?

Quote
ood news for all 'Star Wars' fans. Disney is in talks for ten more 'Star Wars' films following the success of ' Episode VII - The Force Awakens.'
.
.
It is being said the franchise already has five further movies, two trilogies and a hat-trick of spin-offs, planned and executives are reportedly discussing another quintet of the sci-fi motion pictures for after 2020, Channel 24 reports. An insider revealed that the success of 'The Force Awakens' has given executives much to think about its more films.

.
Last year, it was reported that Ewan McGrego is in talks with Disney about a possible trilogy of films based on the legendary Jedi Master. In addition to this, Mace Windu, played by Samuel L Jackson in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - could also get his own spin-off.
.
.
Last year, director AJ Edwards admitted he was in talks to helm a 'Star Wars' movie based on the Master of the Order. When asked by a fan on social networking service Reddit if there is any truth to the rumours he might be directing a future film in the franchise, he wrote: "Talking about it, not able to say a lot yet, It will focus on Mace Windu." The next two movies in the trilogy are due to drop in 2017 and 2019, while Han Solo and Boba Fett movies are expected in 2018 and 2020.

Some of these sound like very bad ideas/shameless cash grabs.

Mace Windu:  Guess it would have to revolve around his exploits in the Clone Wars.  Can't go back much further than that due to actor age, and he died during.  Rather meh, to be honest.  Between the clone wars cartoons (canon) and the movies, there's not much more there to see, really.

Obi:  What did he do in his hermitage while Luke grew up?  He was supposed to be mostly lying low, avoiding attention.

Fett:  Ok, this could be interesting.  But I wouldn't have high hopes.

They paid good money for that cow and they're gonna milk it until the teats fall off.

But maybe should they be direct to video?

And that wouldn't be a BAD thing, really.  Theatrical release of the major installments with direct to video spinoffs.

It works for the princess movies after all.  (and now I have a daughter, I've actually SEEN some of those straight to video sequels, they are spotty, hit or miss affairs)

Really, their Marvel model might not be a bad plan either:  They have the cinematic releases and now the Netflix properties.  Outsource some of the spinoffs to streaming services.  Mace Windu to Netflix. Boba Fett to Amazon, etc.

I'm one of the bigger Star Wars geeks I know, but I'd be questioning the need to pay full theater price on a lot of these.

Well, thanks for that. I haven't seen the movie yet, and what's the point now?  ::)

I'd thought this thread would be about marketing the franchise, not revealing spoilers.

Yes, Star Wars has reached saturation point. At least a decade ago. And now, thanks to the above spoiler being revealed, there's one more movie I needn't bother watching.

She's got a point, Uno.  I'd already had it spoiled, but still.

I would argue that it's still worth watching as it's more about using the old characters as a bridge to introduce the new. I did, however, lookup the plot even before I knew I'd be watching the movie, for what that may be worth.

The relevant part of my post should be spoilered, too. I'm not sure how to do that.

I've been avoiding the SW thread in CFC A&E entirely since the release, and lightly skimming here, since I may not just not read where I'm in charge - but the innerwebs are full of classy people, and in some places, I've seen multiple announcements of the spoiled fact in the MOST random comment threads, just to grief...

In the borehole pressure mines 100km beneath Planetsurface, at the Mohorovicic Discontinuity where crust gives way to mantle, temperatures often reach levels well in excess of 1000 degrees Celsius.
