What beers do you drink?

I'm drinking a Point Special right now.

I'm drinking coffee - that is why there's none in my postbit, despite Geo's gift yesterday.

It's July. I'm getting thirsty for a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.

A thread about beer. You really leave the bavarian no chance but to post here.

Well. My absolute favourite would be the "Flötzinger Wiesenmärzen" but its only available a short time in the year when the "Wiesn" of Rosenheim (like the  Oktoberfest just smaller) takes place.

Rest of the year it is "Flötzinger Hell", followed by "Augustiner Hell" (called "Gustl" in slang) and "Original Hofbräu".

Y'know, I have a theory that Bavarians are all right; it's the Prussians that gave the rest a bad name...

Well, I think most Bavarians would sign that. I mean there's a pretty common swear-word for non-bavarian Germans here in Bavaria. Its "Saupreiss" and literally means something like "prussian pig". But its used on all Germans not only Prussians.

Love how the traders are the keen alkies here.

Personally the Bavarian style brews I've tried have had more hops than I like and an odd flowery aftertaste that isn't very pleasant to me, although I've never been to Bavaria and something could be lost in the importation.

I was to Bavaria in the 1990s, when the border was open, and the Russians hadn't left yet.

I only tried a few, but recall the Spaaten as a stand-out.

Even compared to the other provinces I visited and drank the local brews- Hesse, Thurengen, the one around Cologne, and the Black Forrest/ Stuttgart province.

Well, in Cologne I tried something  that sounded like Frue Kolsch that was served in odd glasses, more like juice glasses than beer glasses. That stands out in my mind, more for being weird than enjoyable.

Spaten is probably the only beer you tasted there I'd acknowledge being a real beer. In Bavaria we also drink either  "a Maß" 1L or  "a halbe" 0,5L. Beers served in smaller glasses and/or bottles are not to be taken serious. and Kölsch, I don't wanna talk about it. xD

To be fair, I was visiting Hessian relatives, and they drove or escorted me around, and I strived to try the local stuff wherever I was for lunch or dinner. I detested all American beer I'd ever tasted at the time, so I was a real newb. But I much preferred fresh to pasteurized!

While in Munich, I stayed with the Spaaten. I didn't try the others.

Mylochka once did western Turkey with a native guide.  I imagine that's the way to go if you want to begin to know a place, especially the people.

I toured western Turkey in 74'. It was supposed to be a church tour of the Holy Land, but a war happened. So we wound up visiting new testament  sites in Greece and Turkey. Greece was amazing for it's age and history. Rural Turkey- as one of the people on the tour exclaimed- "they're a thousand years behind us, they'll never catch up!". I don't know about that, but we saw a camel train.

Fossils fuels in the last century reached their extreme prices because of their inherent utility: they pack a great deal of potential energy into an extremely efficient package. If we can but sidestep the 100-million-year production process, we can corner this market once again.
