I'm in a conflict right now... do I buy the "Random Money" Item? or do I transfer my money to the bank?

Random Money seems to be stupid, since it costs 75 to get +/- 190 EC. Effective thats a range from -265 to +115. So losing money has more than the double chance of winning it.

On the other hand 0.0811 percent do not seem to be much, even with 500 EC thats less than half a credit per day.



I'm really tempted to buy this Rock from you, if I make the same profit-rate like I did with the last one I'll get a ton of EC.     xD

So what did you do with your well-earned profit?

I recommend the Bank - though, sad to say, less than a single EC interest doesn't round up - but once you reach 811 in the Bank, the credit a day adds up to more than 365 EC a  year.  Keep earning and depositing, and it ends up significant daily profit.  The #2 guy in the Bank deposited about 3,000 of gambling money over three years ago, and I don't think ever deposited again - and it took me six months of posting science articles at 10 EC a thread like a psycho w/ no life to catch up and pass him.  You can see how rich he is...

Weellll - the entire original point of EC for posts is motivation - you originally had to BUY the ability to use avatars not in the User Gallery for 50ec until I turned it off because no one but me was making enough for that to be practical - and I'm known for my avatar creation and hate seeing people running around nekkid.  -So the best value in the Shop, Buy an Avatar, ain't there no more.

(Valka has a 2,000ec Change Your Username I gifted her as a token of appreciation for her help/support after I accidentally bought it - she should put that up for sale at a substantial discount and deposit in the Bank.  I always keep hoping we'll get more nice things to buy in the shop, but everything we've got is pretty useless or priced really high because we don't want too many people giving each other Custom titles or Stickiying threads.)

The motivation works - I use it when the forum's in a low traffic spell to motivate me to post science articles and build my lead on Imagine a Cool Name in the Bank, teardrop in the Pacific that it is at this point.  But it pretty much only works for me.

IIRC, quadruple EC for anything in AARs -because making them is a LOT of work, and we WANT AARs as wonderful quality gaming content, and AARs commented on to encourage.  20ec for new threads in Planet Tales, same reasoning.  50ec for new threads in Chiron News Network, because a gaming community needs Front Page news, but more because when you add a file to Downloads, it auto-generates a CNN thread, and quality game content again.

The double EC for new threads in Our Researchers Have Made a Breakthrough and Destination: Alpha Centauri is still the best return for the effort, mind you; I've made north of 500ec a DAY when I was most bored and in need of something to do and found a lot of new science articles available to copy/paste...

Okay, I had a look on all of these. And I think I'd really enjoy working on an AAR.
Never heard of it before but its intriguing.

Sure Science posts seem to be less work, but I just don't feel it ^^

Gonna think this thru. Maybe I'll have a shot on an AAR. (Any suggestions for the first run?)

Games with a dramatic theme/title of some sort catch attention more easily, but a short newb game on citizen in vanilla SMAC v. just Yang or somebody, but many screenshots and some good annotations are still real winners.  Nobody's competing right now for AAR attention, but I guarantee that won't last long once a decent AAR is ongoing'/regularly updating for two weeks or so.  -That's just how activity cycles work.

-I think I'll go right now and bump comment EC in that folder up one, so you'd at least get what starting a thread gets you in most folders, 5ec, when you update...

(As it happens, I'm pretty much the guy in this community you want troubleshooting screenie issues - you will have them if you're not experienced with taking game screenies for forum posting.  Protip: boot your graphics program before SMACx, and tab out of the game to paste in - the screenies will look like crap until you close the game and the color palette goes back to normal.  If you have GOG SMACX, there's a problem with tabbing out, and I'll need Petek's help, or do some reading...)

I got the GOG-version and some stuff called PRACX installed that lets me tab out easily (at least I think it is PRACX what does it) and a screen-resolution-thingy going on. I'm gonna test taking Screenshots as soon as my son is in bed.

You also have the option of hosting here (create an album under the Media button at the top of the page) or attaching, then copying the URL of the attachment and editing into the body of the post, like this:

VERY nice AAR OP.  Now you need to decide whether to start a linked Comments thread or let bystanders peanut gallery it up in the middle of your story.  Some do one, some the other.  I'll be wanting to comment some...

You might go to the trouble while you're cropping screenies and all, to save whomever hosts the shots the bandwidth by sizing everything down to about 600x -or less, depending- about all the forum will display.

First I wanted to upload the images here into a album, but it seems that I can only upload one at a time, wich is to painfull if I can simply drag and drop 'em into my dropbox-folder.
