So...I don't know if I posted about Talia's art lately. 

Painting is light years ahead of anything I could pull off, and her daily makeup is often more face painting fun than makeup.  But her 3d art class, she's mostly focused on casting jewelry, and got put into the district art contest....

Well of the two rings she submitted, her school chose the one she wasn't as happy with because it was more contemporary as a jewelry piece and thus more likely to win.  (only 12 entries of any type per junior high allowed, so it was actually a big win to begin with). 

Well, at the district level, there were no other jewelry entries...so they put her ring in the sculpture category...which the OTHER ring would have been better suited for to begin with but that's a totally BS category to put something like that.  I need to upload pics when I have a decent connection. 

Her final project in that class had to be a mixed media sculpture.  Several ideas were squashed by the teacher as "You're style is too advanced for this class, you need to wait til college to do something like that".  Talia really wanted to do a Greek styled bust. 

So, she's settled on a mask that sure sounds like she's going surrealist with it.  I did a plaster shell on her face last weekend for a base, and she took the dremel to it to carve out sections, and we bought DAS clay, sea glass, and sea shells for her to add on top.

To be fair, the mask was literally the first time they'd used DAS clay or tried sculpting a face, and was a forced mixed media assignment.
