Drying in the backyard for about the next hour:

Mylochka wants to do something for the website -video, I think- in the painting process line, not unlike the first four pages I made of mostly mask-making process.  This is the base coat for a sandstone texture, and then she'll see about Mars color and what her hands want to do for decorationdetailing…

She also found the files for the former Frida Kahlo in Love -a masked show, as I've posted a few shots in the past- webpages so we can do something with them/bring them back.  I haven't looked at what she found yet, but am about to.

After this has dried an hour, she plans to spray another stone texture atop the sandstone - not rust-red, either, and I have my doubts about anything beyond this working well.  But life is risk, and a collaborator makes making more interesting, what with the surprises.

The red wagon is my vintage mid-60s steel frame original, never in storage, and we've moved refrigerators balanced on it - it's very useful, or was when the wheels were a lot younger, for moving heavy things when you needed more stability than a wheelbarrow.


I'm going to have to break off before beginning chapter Four of Pyrebound.  The Frida Kahlo in Love pages are lovely, but going to need some additions -no masks shown/discussed- but if a.) KompoZer doesn't break the frames and b.) I can figure out the file system from the button addresses, I'm going to have something uploaded and working before bedtime.  We're going to give all the show pages she can turn up their own folder -because she was CHEESED when they took her show pages down; it's a carrot for getting cooperation on the useful mask-related stuff- and linkback from the mask shows...

It appears there's going to be significant expansion of the Frida site - M got an early start today, and it turned out she still has most of those masks, and has photographed them.

Looking through stuff and making suggestions is rather fun.  I'm on her to add material about how it turned out, what I found when I first saw it yesterday being a bit about Frida and the inspiration, a lot about the collaborative directing, and absolutely nothing about the use of masks -sets, costumes, story, etc.- and how the show was and came off in the final product.

The pics she took this morning.  Turns out I did do at least two monkeys - though I still think the third was a paint-alike improvised on the same sort of super-cheap plain mask the Day of the Dead one was done on.

   



   

Looking at these, I wish I'd been able to do the final trims - I don't think I had anything to do with those eyeholes, and the full-face Frida needs the bottom cut out to not make her look fat and let the actresses move their chins.  I am pretty proud of the good likeness I produced of Diego Rivera.

I like the monkey quite a bit.  I'd love to see that done with fluorescing paints. (note, not bright fluorescent colors, just colors that fluoresce under blacklight)

Yeah, I've had rather mixed results with multicoats on the textured paints.

She didn't do anything else to the Mars Face yesterday - it appears the second texture caused the "sand" to have dark and light specks, and look less like a cement casting, but only up close.

I'll pass along about a glow-in-the-dark monkey.  This may turn out to be a good time to express ideas like that...

HOWEVER, I'd add a really slow strobe.  Like one pulse every 10 seconds or so.  This lets you see the normal paint for just a moment, and messes with your eyes. 

Typically you have a black suited employee or two with masks on their hands as well so some of them move. 

The subtle day/night change coupled with that monkey shape would be a big improvement on the basic idea that's become standard as it's JUST off the expectation.

Did I mention that she did a couple glow in the darks in the green set of mold masks from late 2017?  Nothing I can photograph satisfactorily, of course, but I think of you whenever it registers on me.

That day/night cloudscape is impressive.

I've actually copy/pasted the relevant suggestions in email just now.

Yesterday at supper, she asked me to get together all the finished masks for her to photograph.  I've suddenly become so used to having my collaborator -abruptly- back from the dead that I didn't run downstairs and report this 20 hours ago.  It's quite a stack, one mask going back 20 years, but I have done so now.

I still don't see how she's going to make this rust-red, which I gather is still the plan, but the black and white granite speckle effect is an improvement after all...

That's cool. For that matter, the ceiling fan reminds me of a steam punk UFO in the night shots.
