I did up the simpler horns and nose, as proposed, and just had to try them out uncoated:

They were so much easier to work with, and the mask so much better, that I regret I didn't put the goatee on...

This should be ready to mask on.  It helps enormously that shell bases flex during the demasking, especially around the edges where the latex is most prone to foul up.

I got a lot of deviling done today.



Started with adding a goatee to yesterday's new Retro Devil.  That was drying while I mached the Serious Devil for hours.   Finally got Retro off the base w/o incident, and set to prying out the new appliances.  They all came out in one piece, never a given with bare sculpey facial appliances.  Now, have glued them to paper and mached a layer over top - latex bonds very poorly directly to sculpey.  Small things like that with one layer of mache ought to be dry enough very soon - and I think I won't have to coat them very thickly and can do a second test Retro by Friday, maybe.

-Now to trim the Retro in front of me - literally, it's laying over the keyboard.

I'd have gone with Devil's Carnival myself, but whatever.

That's the new one on the right, of course.  The classy backdrop they're sitting on is the t-shirt I use as a lap-cloth while macheing.  The different angle of the beard on the new one was not intended, and would be difficult to achieve on purpose with the appliance on with the rest of the face.

Which version of the Retro Devil mask do y'all prefer?

I forgot to cut the slot in the mouth like the masks of my childhood - I'm bad at that.  Should I go for it before I coat the inside or let it ride?

The shape of the Crone's eye sockets absolutely did not want to make the swept-up devil eyes.


One more half-mask drying, and then I'm down to making the Mars face - and maybe getting around to making the mask of Buster's dog, Dixie; I'm still waiting for the pics of the dog Buster promised me, even after I reminded her last Sunday.

I've failed to report that the latex coating on the Crone wasn't ready, either.  All the appliances and the serious Devil are in excellent shape, but Johnny and Crone's coatings are trying to peel off during mask separation and need, at least, repairs - and maybe re-doing entirely...

Looks like latex has not just separated, but stretched in places.  Reckon I need to strip these off and start over - and mail the skins to Uno...
