Uno - ISTR you suggesting something on a Phantom of the Opera line, but not just what variation on the asymmetrical design, and I can't find the post.

(I discovered the movie recently.  If you've never sang Point of no return to Het, you probably should...)

NO ONE wants to hear me sing.

I don't recall which design I would have suggested or when either.  It might have been at the other place, even.  I seem to recall us having the conversation of a removable mask with the makeup done up underneath.  That's always been a desire of mine.

I've described before an idea I had back in my renfair days - the crone mask in white plaster, with the crone mask in somewhat realistic latex underneath.  I have both, and have posted pics before...

There's a lot of work to fix this up - but I figure I can work with this.

There's a discontinuity in the head -

-and since I have a much better mold of the head I did for a candle bust, I reckon I'll be replacing this with that...

Here's a better shot of the head problem.

It only looks super-bad from this angle, but just as well save my self a lot of work, and get a better result, with replacing this part.

I ended up fiddling with the Ken statue mold until I think the next try will be a lot more acceptable.

-Trouble is, I've used up my plaster, and I don't want to do any more pours until the current cold snap goes away, anyway - the outdoor faucets are wrapped up, and I can't properly clean up the plaster mess without ruining our drains.

Meanwhile, something new in the works:

That's the unaltered/joints-showing body, which I plan to fix up in plaster.  I'll add hair, of course, and because there's no wrists and the arms won't pose like I want, I'm going to mold/cast them separately in sculpey to make the master figure...

Here's the deal with the new Barbie statue:

-cocked hip, tilted head - and the arms posed as close as they'll go for illustrative purposes.  The intent is for the right arm to cross and grasp the left, which is to go straight down and rest the hand on the thigh.  I'm trying for little to no gap away from the body.

Here's the master (arms posed up to get out of the way...):

Note the ridge snaking up the back - that's where I cut the mold open when this was dry and off/

-which was hard to get off with the arms in the way, but I think will work out okay to give me a base figure to work with.  Opening up the front seems to be the way to go with this sort of thing.  Duct tape doesn't stick to the plaster well, nor the silicone at all, but will stick to duct tape, when you lap it over, just fine.

I have plugged the arm holes, but the back of my head is still working on designing the arm molds, which are going to be tricky to stuff sculpey in and then demold in one piece.

The cold snap has finally ended, so I'm stealing myself up to make a run on the hardware store for a new sack of plaster.  (I wonder if they carry the gauze?  Never buy art supplies at an art supply store when the hardware store carries the same thing in bulk, at MUCH lower prices.)

---

Further in the back of my noggin, figuring out how to make a good casting of that baby head...

...I'll decide about her hair when I've done her arms - I was thinking about a thick braid, but if the (thin, fragile) arms can't feasibly be made to lay against the body, a great flowing mane of waist-length might be called for...

I completely forgot to mention I noticed the Prison&Maritime Museum at Ushuaia had a goodly sized collection of dolls...

Give me a while to pick-n-process a group shot of everything we have I took about a month ago but hadn't done anything with yet.

Huh.  Four half-masks and the horned skull.  I kinda thought there was more than that.  Took a pic of them together just now - coming in a few minutes.

Just noting that 1.) I owe you a mask, and 2.) the horned skull glows in the dark.

The green ones are both latest crop.  The half-masks in shades of reddish are older, and favorites of Mylochka's that are not the first things in our inventory she's eager to part with - they're a lot smoother and nicer to the touch than the green mold-disaster survivors, mind.  I'm sure you'll fill me in on the what/why at some point?

Note, too, that horned half-masks unpainted would be fairly easy to turn out fairly quickly.  There's more than one nose, and I'd need to post profiles and maybe the noses themselves if somebody wanted to special order and decorate at their end...
