It hit me this morning:  Easter Island head.

...I need to see something I've been working on to completion before I bust.  Can't do anything to speed things up with the websites I made for my cousin or my brother's church, and I feel like a jerk when I try to light a fire under Mylochka about painting masks - and that leaves getting the new candles over to the gallery and on display...

I had to modify the basic shape away from accuracy to make something that would stand upright w/o a buried body holding it up...

I've baked it - and scored some of that mold putty today.  Had to go to Hickory and Michaels.

The stuff's dear, so I'm going to try to go with a thin mold and a plaster gauze mother mold, like Uno suggested, for support.  I'm presently cooling the two tubes in the fridge to extend the molding time, 'cause I'm nervous about working in the seam in the back.  I'll be on it in about 45 minutes.  ...Wish me luck...

I'll be interested in seeing how this works out - the instructions say it can be removed from the mold in a half hour, but I'm going to let it sit until I'm up to arting tomorrow morning, then wrap a little plaster gauze around it, and read the instructions again to be sure about the curing period before doing any casting.



I ate a can of chicken noodle soup for supper today, not because I craved that, but the can was perfect for stirring up/melting some gray wax in.  I wonder if there's a feasible/simple/free way to simulate the rough pumice-y texture with pigments...

I dunno if this mold is going to be good enough - the AMP I used was old; it worked fine for Jeebus back in November, but very thin bits stuck to the original this time, and it seems fragile.  I did the first casting in plaster, something I should have done with the Barbie, since the mold-making destroyed the hair, and I'll have pics tonight after it's had time to set...

I guess if the remnants I used were finally past expiration date, it's no real loss if I have to do it over...
