Greenhouse Gate Area Defense Patrol
North of Sunny Mesa

Agan had little sleep this night. He was not completely awake for sure. After late evening guard duty at their last stop, he was hoping for at least 5 hours of quiet regenerative sleep. However, after only two hours, unit commander received a message about mindworm boil at the Mesa River estuary. It was spotted by Unity Scout Rover returning from the north, recent cartography mission. Orders were to catch any mindworms, that were docile enough to be controlled. If not, they were to be destroyed immediately and planetpearls harvested.

Thus now, for over 4 hours they were driving east. Sun, alpha, already was several degrees above horizon, so it was difficult to observe in the direction they were going. One more hill and in the distance they saw sea bay. The one, that had in its vicinity one of these alien monuments. The Unity Scout Rover was waiting there. Agan have heard, that its "healing" abilities were amazing. He wanted to try this some day.

There it was, the larval mass. The commander ordered to stop.
The commlink squawked with the commander voice.
"Agan, can you see it?"
"Give me a minute more. I have trouble with the alpha sun."
These mindworms were not very mature. Easy cake, he thought.
"Ok, this is hardly mature boil. I think standard attack should be enough. We can go."

Armoured rovers formed an attack formation. Prep of guns and flame throwers took only 20 seconds. This unit was experienced. Agan pitied the planet, they were definitely hurting it. He wondered, if there will be the day, when it will be no longer such a weakling.
