The new series will launch in early 2017 with a preview airing on CBS, and then will shift exclusively to CBS All Access as part of the company’s effort to bolster interest in its streaming service.

Yep. Canadian viewers not welcome. Why should I even bother?

I would be astonished if it was very good...

Seeing that some of the production team was involved in the nuTrek abominations is not a way to make me have positive expectations of this.

All I'm hoping at this point is that the Axanar debacle won't kill all the fan films. The Star Trek Continues and Phase II stuff is the only Star Trek worth watching these days.

I can quibble with not one single word of that.

The only rational basis I can think of for the way the Anaxar people have handled it is to be able to leverage bad publicity/fan reaction against CBS/Paramount.

I wouldn't miss Phase II, honestly.

Well, I'm not impressed with the new guy playing Kirk in the Phase II films. James Cawley was good, in an AU kind of way. The new one is... boring. Bland. Uninteresting. Did I mention boring?

The thing about Phase II is when they're good, they're terrific. When they're bad, you get crap like Mind-Sifter, which is a shame. I've read three different versions of that - the fan author's original, an early script (available on fanfiction.net), and the pro-published one. That's one hell of a good story and deserved better.

Eh - they keep doing stupid fan stuff with working in the movies and TNG.  That REALLY puts me off.

If you're going to do real ST, do Real ST.

Old series colors? So your days are numbered if wardrobe issues you a red shirt, and you're not the chief engineer.
Your agonizer, please.

Agreed.  It would be easy to screw up hue-shifting an ordinary forest and green-screening, but this did not.  I'm hearing good things about this this one...

...Including that they started raising money same time as Anaxar and have actually finished a movie, all for about $50,000 American.

-I note that no one in either trailer has that fan-in-a-costume look that usually jumps out at you so strongly on first sight, the acting seems competent, the technical values professional, and this second trailer features some actual Strange New World Exploring...

That was actually the original ending of that episode. When James Blish adapted it for one of his anthologies, he was working from an old script and the ending had Carolyn pregnant by Apollo.

I suspect the network censors probably vetoed that part of the storyline.

And when the hourglass has run out, the hourglass of temporality, when the noise of secular life has grown silent and its restless or ineffectual activism has come to an end, when everything around you is still, as it is in eternity, then eternity asks you and every individual in these millions and millions about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not.
~Soren Kierkegaard 'The Sickness Unto Death', Datalinks
