I do crazy things for my girl. 




Dress for Talia, silly. 

Because its so easy to find red dresses in the selection of spring dresses on sale now. 

We got her a shirt at Savers, and that's just going to have to do. 

Other "fun" includes the fact our school decided to break away from the state program's festivities at the local university to do their own, but openly admit there will not be enough stuff for everyone.  It's changed from serving dinner to 'food sampling', and there won't be enough seating for the program, they want us to "rotate" and have each grade perform, shuffle out the audience, bring in a new one, repeat, which is surely going to smoothly. 

If they'd have just told us all this to begin with I would have just to Talia we couldn't make it. 


Oh, and I'm supposed to put her hair in a bun.  hEt's working, my hair skills are relegated to braiding and pony tails.  HOW the sam hell do you make a bun?

Pin down a braid in a coil, or fold the ponytail under, back into the tie.

My niece ( in beauty school) is here convalescing. She says Pony tail, twist it tighter, then wrap it around itself and pin it place with bobby pins.

Having never USED a bobby pin, this is where it all falls apart.  Literally.

Advice about alternatives doesn't sound that simple. I asked about using a chip clip to hold it in place while the bobby pins went in, but that was frowned upon. There's a dual pony tail technique, and there's advice about bobby pins, using small amounts of hair. So the mrs asks her how many should you use-

"I can do it with as little as  three, but I had over 130 for your wedding."   

Uh, yeah. Doesn't sound like the thing for somebody with big fingers and no experience.


Can she sleep over at a friend's house that has the same requirements?  Send cookies along with her, that's how I'd try to arrange it.

Not really.  For many reasons.  Kyle's friends are mostly out the front door to the right.  This is clearly more prosperous housing than to the left, and they tend to have nicer stuff, so he went over there more than they come here. 

Alec's friends are mostly further away, and he also tends to go over there, since they all live closer together, the group is easier to form in their neighborhood. 

Talia's friends are thus far tending to be out the door to the left.  We have a swing set and a trampoline, things these girls don't have otherwise.  Thus, we're the place to be.

So, after about 30 tries, I get a damn chop stick bun to work using a bamboo stick I had! 

I'm happy, Talia's happy, it all works. 

About 5 seconds after getting there, my stick is frowned upon (it's too dangerous) and her former teacher takes her into the back, pulls it out and redoes it with some throwaway chopsticks.   

Whatever.  I give.

Than heaven for little girls.

They're less likely to break things than the boys.

But you run a greater risk of cliques and crap as they grow.  Plus with 2 older brothers and a weird dad, Talia can be fairly Tomboy at times.  Teenage years are not gonna be fun.
