There's no more snow to blow around, it's all stripped and moved down wind, but I got to drive through a dirt/sand drift today...at least the sand is giving traction to the ice from no one plowing. 

Oh, and it seems -30ish is the limit of my car's radio.  The screen went all garbldeygook.  Don't know if it'll come back when it warms up or not.

One year ago, I was laid off...

Assuming the Gov't keeps it's promise to announce on time, hundreds of people I used to work with will be informed of their fate tomorrow, and I get to oversee their exit.  Gonna be a crappy month.

Lessee...

Company A is contracted with the govt 20 years ago to handle all of Alpha.  Company A subcontracts out a lot of the actual work to Company B, which include Omega.  Uno is hired to work Omega by company B. 

5 years later, Omega is closed by the Air Force, and Uno goes to work on Charlie (boring!!!  Glorified garage door opener...), which started due to 9-11. 
3 years later, Charlie is finishing up, Company B lets Uno know he will be out of a job in 3 months.  Meanwhile Company C splits off of company A, and the Air Force declares Company C will restart work on Omega separate from Alpha.  Company C knows no one else (under the age of 70) can bring Omega back on line, and hires Uno away from Company B. 
3 years later, the Airforce declares Omega will once again close down.  Uno is thus unemployed and most of C is absorbed back into Company A.  Meanwhile, Obama says Alpha sucks (which it does), and Hydra is being formed (which might not be any better). 

Company D gets contracted to the Hydra body, and as such cannot work on any of the 4 heads of Hydra to prevent conflict of interest that ran rampant under Alpha, but must coordinate between the heads, and ensure the transition from Alpha to Hydra.  Uno goes to work for company D after 10 months (both of Hydra's existance and my unemployment, it took them that long to hire for my field, partly because company A and B are purposely delaying the transitions).  Company A and Company B are currently competing for 2 of the heads of Hydra.  It is suspected both heads will be awarded the same company.  One of the heads is due to be announced today, the other by mid month.  I'm the middle man between whoever loses and whoever wins. 

Meanwhile, Omega has restarted again in a limited capacity.
