The neighbors across the street (the anti-halloween folk) bought 2 honeybee colonies Saturday, brought them home, and suddenly realized they had no idea how to transfer them from the transport boxes to the hives (and had the hives set up wrong, but they didn't know that). They called the supplier, who called me.

Hard to tell what was more shocking to them. The evil Halloween guy coming to their rescue, or the fact I was moving thousands of bees sans-bee suit.

I'm actually not overly enthusiastic about the survival of these bees. Their garden isn't nearly a 'friendly' environment yet, and the surrounding neighbors don't offer much foraging either. I have mine set up for my native hive that may or may not have survived the spraying from another neighbor, so that's (potential) competition in the only real yard planted with bees in mind, and I got horrified looks when I suggested some less than totally eye-pleasing plants that would help the bees, and even more attitude when I discouraged the idea of putting the hives in their greenhouse. Then, given our history, they're not likely to listen to anything I say anyway, even though it was all on the instruction sheet from their supplier as well.

How are your bees doing lately?

Haven't seen em, but it's still officially early for this kind of bee.  They die off every winter naturally, save the queen/couple drones, and she has to repopulate.  So, I won't know till around June when the population is up in the hundreds. 

Really bizaar weather this year might make that earlier.  We're in the 80's right now, and all the plants are confused.  Bugs will soon follow.

I've always had a thing for the old west medicine show.  Don't have the file uploaded anywhere, but I have a VSA routine (animatronix) for a medicine show at home.  Always wanted to do that one of these years for Halloween.  Wouldn't be much scary at all, just fun. 

Some of my favorite historical figures ran little sideshow things in the old west as well.  I could have a lot of fun with a western setting.  Ah...'the petrified man' comes to mind.  Old gaff where you encase a cadaver in concrete and sell it off as a fossil.  Lots of times make it a giant or some such as well.

Maybe I need to open a curiousity shop....

HGTV has contacted us asking if I'd be willing to be on a Halloween special. 

I'm on the fence.  It's really against my nature to do such a thing, but all the martha stewart wannabe's that normally get on such shows really aggrivate me as well...
