So, my son's "blue and gold banquet" was last night.  (cub scouts deal)

We're there, all these families around, my son (9) and a bunch of his friends, all sitting down for dinner.  Some of the kids know me, parents, not so much, but EVERYONE knows I'm the crazy halloween guy. 
My son asks:  "Dad, are we the top of the food chain?" 
"No."
"Well, then, who is above us?" 
Completely serious and straight faced.  "Vampires." 
My wife, equally serious and straight faced.  "Werewolves." 

It's tough to tell whether the kids were more shocked, or their parents.

...Oh crap.  I just came up with the premise of the next Underworld sequel...

My little less than glowing review of that coating product has caught the attention of the company.   

Just like with the torches years ago, you search for the product, you get my review, not their website.  Like lamplight farms (the torch company that remodeled the torches based on my criticism, and came up with a colored flame product based on my searching for such a product) , however, they are also asking me to review a product "better suited to my particular needs".  So, I'll be getting this new and improved coating specifically for outdoor use in the mail.

I know I've kinda disappeared.  You'ld be surprised how sculpting can suck time away. 

I also apologize to anyone attempting to find DAS clay in northern Utah.  I've systematically cleaned out all stores save hobby lobby (who is charging 50% more than anyone else for it).  The last store was a grand opening right down the street.  As I bought up their entire supply the kind sales clerk asked what I was making (seems company policy, they were asking everyone.)  I'm not exactly sure how to explain that one.  "I'm building a tomb" was predictably a confusing answer. 


Approximately 8 hours have been spent on it so far over the week, and the right side is almost done.  My hands can only take about an hour at a stretch.   I stopped for a break and decided to take some pics.

Started on the left side.  I'm actually about 80% done with the thing now.  Have the lower inside calf of the left leg to finish, couple spots need some touchup on the right leg, and need to sand the whole thing and do a little cleanup here or there. 

Didn't get a pic of the left leg.

Probably all told, a 20 hour sculpting job. 
 



I sure have missed working with clay-proper, however.  Nice to get my hands in it again.  Still, monster mud is so much quicker/easier.

Beginning to wish I had a means to make a good mold of this thing.   Once it's dry and finished, if I filled the undercuts with modeling clay and sent it down to the scenic shop for a vacuform mold, for instance (then I could remove the modeling clay for my original)...

Wonder how much they'd charge me, or if we could work out a deal.  Be kinda cool to see something of mine sold en-masse as a vacuform mold.

Yeah, it really would - and possibly quite profitable.  No harm in making inquiries, I guess.

Actually, once I get the pleurant finished, it would be possible to vacuform the sides as well, and sell a whole build your own tomb kit.  4 sides and a top, you'ld just have to make a frame to staple them to.

Just gotta find someone who can do the work that I trust.  I don't know of anyone off hand. 

There's a stage production outfit in SLC that could do it.  They wouldn't be interested in production for Halloween, though, I don't believe.  I can check.  They mostly make brick/stone walls for stage productions. 

The Hallween folks I know that do this kind of thing would just as soon rip off the idea and do their own version.
