Today in the newspaper, I read the 'volunteers' didn't find it bad. A bit too lean perhaps.

"It's texture is almost like meat but without any juice to it" (paraphrased) is the comment that stuck out in the video I watched.  I stick to my comment it would probably be fine in, say, a taco or similarly seasoned type dish, but not as a burger. 

I used to be full on vegetarian all summer each year.  As long as the garden keeps supporting it, I have no real desire to meatify.  Going to the store every day or two for fresh produce is just a pain in the ass or I'd rarely eat meat.

As for the neo-burger, they need somebody who likes meat  involved. I figure they need to adjust the fat content. Fat is flavor. Also, they need to culture a little beef blood, too, for color, moisture and flavor. Get rid of the beet juice. Perhaps replace the spice with some onion powder. It might taste like burger.

Then they'll have something that will make a stroganoff, shepherd's pie, meatloaf,  or chili, for example.
Or casseroles ( something I don't normally eat ).

I can almost hear the collective WTF just thinking about buying and displaying that.  I mean, neighborhood kids bring new people around just to see the 'cool stuff', if THAT was in it's place in early October...

Mostly just playing with the new point and shoot.  It's now pre-dawn when I leave for work, so trying it out in the twilight with no flash. 

The previous scoring has turned into nice scars.

Yes, we have squash bugs, and I've been fighting them, and most the plants are doing OK...the cinderellas, however, are not.  I struggled keeping the cinderellas alive last year, and we are again this year, the shock of bugs on top of the heat is just proving to be too much for them.  In a last ditch effort, we chopped the corn they were planted in/around to allow me to get a more thurough spraying of the patch.  This increases the heat problem for them, but hopefully will let me take out the bugs.  This was 2 days after I sprayed, first day after a thurough watering, and they are actually looking a little better.  I'm not going to say out of the woods or anything, but better, some of the leaves getting a bit of green back in them. 




On an aside...

Marigolds as companion plants to keep away bugs:    Back to nasturtium for me next year.

You guys would enjoy if I posted about my big April-May RL project, turning the mess of carolina moonseed that grew in Mylochka's back yard as a weed into an ornamental vine, wouldn't you?  I took pictures of my progress, and everything...

Bug war update, the cinderellas are looking even better this evening when I got home, destroying hiding places, water competition, and a good covering of neem oil seems to have them on the run.
