And...I've had a really wickedly evil idea that I'm getting some advice on. 

Essentially I'm looking at an upgrade/update of THIS thing that only sorta kinda almost worked.  I still love the concept so have kept it filed back of my brain. 



Now, I originally had pictured just the glowy skull up there with silicone supports making it rise...but lets REALLY push it.  Enter the exploded skull mount...



I'd only have it wide enough to let light through the gaps, sealing the thing with silicone to diffuse the light through the gaps. 

Oh, and someone's made a didactic skull 3d printer file?  Noice.  Now to get some quotes. 

Alternately a voronoi skull will look fabulous as well if the above proves cost prohibitive.

Though now you mention the skeleton doing him akin to Mother with ghost skulls coming out of the chest would be wickedly awesome but not where I'm going with him.

Mostly because I'm not overly fond of that.  Even my 2 pumpkinmen costumes were begrudging.  (and one of them is up there tied in reactions from people being scared of it) 

I recognize people go for that idea however.  I might even make ghost pumpkins at some point.  Those would be super simple with the funkins available everywhere.

Ages ago there was a guy that would sculpt his halloween creations with silicone caulk  Largely because they came in base colors worthy of the task, just needing a dry brush for highlights and it was completely waterproof.

I always meant to go back and watch his videos to see just how he was doing it and lead to Kyle's original Darth Maul hat.  I remember q tips of various sizes and plenty of soapy water, but alas he got cancer and is long gone.

With practice, I imagine you could do half the work just roughing it in with a caulk gun...

So I got a half sized exploded skull model yesterday...

I have a line on people with 3d printers and a file for full size versions, the model is to help me figure out which bones I DON'T want printed for my projects...but looking at it I might try to paper mache one together instead.
