Phone ate a post.

I was thinking on this, and I honestly think my reactions can all be traced to swimming lessons.

I know this sounds weird but it was one of the few things my mom absolutely insisted on and always found a way to fund.  From age 3 I was in swimming lessons every year.

As I grew older, I was even assisting with the TEACHING as typically my two brothers and I would all have different times, so we'd help with the younger classes when we weren't in lessons.  Anyway, annually, they would do the same lesson every year, no matter the age group.  First class of the year was about pool safety, how to handle an emergency.  The teacher would wander off while everyone was supposed to wait for her to return, and they'd have a shill 'fall in' the deep end and start thrashing about 'drowning'.  kids supposed to react as they'd been taught (go get help, don't try to rescue for young kids, legitimate lifesaving at advance classes) Every year ended with ice cream around the pool, and the teachers would wander off, and again a shill would fall in seeing who had forgotten the first lessons.

So, at 6, walking home with my best friend and him discovering his parents murder/suicide, I didn't even think about it, I just 'go get helped' right to the phone.

At 18, when the shift manager at Burger King went into diabetic shock, I didn't even think.  I got had people call for an ambulance, took care of her, called the store manager.  What shocked the store  manager was that I also kept the store running, giving the needed breaks to employees, comping meals for patrons that were inconvenienced during the situation, and sent people home when the numbers said to.  I was instantly put into the management program.

At 20, I was promoted to first responder at a manufacturing plant with a horrible safety record and dealt with several life threatening situations from chemical spills to heart attacks to impalements and amputations.

While I let the EMT training lapse with Boeing, I was first responder there for a broken bone and a stroke.  I had very serious disagreements with their safety manager at the time as I did not follow company protocol for the latter.

The employee just didn't feel right, and I asked him some questions and just got the sense he shouldn't drive himself home, so talked him into letting me have him go checked out.  I was supposed to check with safety and get approval, checking which hospital and etc to use for our insurance, but we were at a remote site without cell service and didn't have time for that [poop].  Got him into the ER, called his wife, then reported to safety.  I was written up on the spot my manager notified and actually had to use vacation as they wouldn't comp my time for going outside the protocol.  Diagnosis come back the next day of stroke, fortunately caught very early, having the actual stroke while in the hospital, saving the guy from complications, if not saving his life all together.  The safety manager and I did NOT get along much after that, him always trying to find ways to get me fired.

TASC > BAE, and I'm not even officially a responder anymore.  But I'll be damned if [poop]'s going to hell around me with no one else stepping up.

Strange thing is, I tend to find emergencies -real ones, not just showbidness- the easy part.  Unlike mundane day-to-day stuff, the need is clear and that makes it easy to see what needs doing.  We just ain't wired like other people, man...

Surely I've talked about how, in the Texas years, I'd go into the kitchen and find Mylochka laying on the floor, having had a seizure.

Now, the whole time out there, I never made a show of my concern for her broken brain and the connected problems; she pretty much had worry about all that stuff covered, a bit obsessively from my viewpoint.  No, I called her seizures "faking" and a lot of other horrible, very wrong, jokes - it was informed by respective senses of humor and life-long relationship and probably not how I'd have done with anyone else but her - except our Uncle Tony, who just had a weakness for jokes in poor taste.  Point being, all I was there for was really metaphorical -and literal- hand-holding; she almost always took care of herself by herself, but just did better, day to day, with someone there to talk to, who visibly cared - but, and this is key, calmly.

So I'd walk up beside her, calmly, and ask her if she wanted a popsicle.  If she said yes, and she always did - which also told me she was recovering and understood me and could talk and didn't need something else even more - and I'd go get two out of the freezer and sit beside her until she was ready to get back up.

Mind, the first time it happened I asked a lot more questions and ascertained that she'd basically sat before she fell, and I'm really just describing the considerable repeat business, but I did keep it low key.  Still, so simple to know what to do that I can describe it to make me sound like I'd reasoned it all out when I was really just following instincts in the moment.  Again, emergencies are easy; it's regular days I suck at...

Working from home, while not possible 100% of the time, is actually going surprisingly well for me.  In a lot of ways it's actually easier.  Despite the kids being home, overall I have fewer distractions.

The most random of random crap.

Hobbitville is now going to be come a city park.

https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2020/03/31/salt-lake-city-under/

This is an urban legend location that really began to heat up when I was in high school.  A private bird refuge, housing exotic birds in cages, and some really bizarre statuary, but had little houses added to help pay for funding the park, with eccentric residents who were typically not too happy to have people in their neighborhood.  Legends of creatures living there coming to get you after dark ran rampant.

Good article with pics from 2013:

Here's hoping it gets renovated and preserved.

That poor dog.

I mean the damn hear opposable thumb is kinda cool, but the extra bones from the 'elbow' down even on the opposable limb are kinda horrifying.  And that other limb is all kinds of fubar.  I'm assuming those are the rear quarters X-rays, not the ones we can see in the pics as well.  Looks like there might be something funky with the ribs too.  hard to tell with given info.

And just like that, Project Caerbannog was born.

I've 200 eggs here, and have ordered such fillers as toy zombies, bug larvae candy, candy ghosts, and pumpkin toys.  To anonymously egg our neighbors Easter morn.

For good measure I happened to see a stuffed jesus in an egg and unicorns as well.  Just to throw even more confusion into the mix.

Because zombies are an essential part of the Easter story.

Erm... isn't that breaking Corona regulations?

How would leaving eggs that were prepared well before the hard surface survival rate of the virus on people's lawns in the middle of the night be breaking social distancing exactly?

Oh, I imagined a day excursion in your neighbours yard, him/her yelling to get off his lawn while attacking you or something.

The night part changes alot of course.

neighbor yelling. "Get off my lawn!"
Pumpkin Man looks up towards the Neighbor
Neighbor sees the Pumpkin Man, "Urrr... Ummm.... Oh, carry on..." and surries back inside.
Pumpkin Man smiles and continues on...

Thus far, if any of the neighbors have riddled out whom sent the eggs, they’re keeping mum. Most just posting thank you whoever you are.  One was kinda wtf is with the random stuff.

Everyone ignores the whole zombie horde part of the Easter story.
