Alpha Centauri is definately one of my favourite games. I had such high hopes for beyond earth but it ended up disappointing me.

That's what I remember doing for sure.

Extending game turns is an easy Notepad edit of one of the .txt files, but I don't recall what.  Someone will be along who knows soon, I expect...

Just edit alpha.txt (for SMAC) or alphax.txt (for SMAX).

Just search for "Normal ending year "

Basically, it's all the same techniques as faction modding - just watch out for the color palette, which is slightly different for the terrain files, and practice, practice, practice.

I got linked here from GOG help forums.
I've been playing Alpha Centauri ever since it first came out; it's the ONLY software I have that I've put on every desktop I've used since whenever I bought it.
And when Windows 10 wouldn't let me install from the original disk, I was recommended to go to Good Old Games, and they got me up and running again. I also got Alien Crossfire as a bundle buy, and they were giving away Rebel Galaxy as a freebie, so I have those as well. Just haven't tried to run them yet.
