...I didn't manage to get my hands of the novels, I bet those were interesting to read.
They are interesting.

You can still find them on eBay and Amazon, though they cost quite a bit now. The third volume is especially pricey. But since I had the first two from when they were new and the third one got damaged in a move and needed replacing, I was glad to find one in pretty good shape online... for about $40 CAD.

You might get lucky at second-hand bookstores, though.

Hi all you sea lurks and mindworms out there :)

I rediscovered SMAX recently and would like to test my skills against human players. I found this site by googling Alpha Centauri Multiplayer, so here I am.

I'm ready to Pbem or via IP, so as no one showed up for an IP session tonight Sunday evening, I'll continue my solo game as Keiko on Terra.map, kicking AI's asses^^ to be well trained for games against you

I you feel like having an IP session at any time, send e an email, or an SMS as short notice. My country prefix is +43, as it is +1 for the US (typically one would dial 001, thus 0043 I guess), and my operator's net is 699, thus my cellphone is +43 699 1234 2430

Cheers, and don't eat fungus and no yellow snow^^

The SMAC books pre-date popular ebook use, so they're not even available piratically.

@Keiko,

Best of luck finding suitable opponents :) There should be some people in the Command Nexus who might be interested.

Greetings, AC2 Forums! Glad to be aboard. My nom des jeux is terzaerian. I've been playing SMAC pretty much since it came out in 1999; its original disk is still banging around my apartment somewhere. I've been getting into not only playing it but modding it as well lately, and a lot of times my Google searches pointed me here or to the site wiki, so I decided to pull the trigger and register. If you have Steam, you can add me on there - I use the same username there, though I won't be able to respond if I'm playing SMAC - curse you overlay!

I've been a modder pretty much as long as I've been a PC gamer, and my first forays into it were, appropriately enough, with Civ II. I've since made mods for a wide number of games and released them, though my most popular by far was Follower Commentary Overhaul for TES V: Skyrim. I've made at least one faction so far with custom graphics (though I cheated and used the Firaxian base art) but I'm working on another at the moment that's sort of Mad Max themed that I hope to make custom art for.

Greetings Earthlings, Centaurians, Chironites, Planeteers?!
I discovered this site through gog.com forum. Searching for multiplayer SMAC or SMAX games i found a post from 2012 linking here. I'm happy to learn that there is a community of smac players online.
I have only played multiplayer over LAN with my brother, never with other people over internet or email, but we are looking to hook up with other interested players for either.
This is my first post here and I hope to learn more about finding or creating a game! My bro and I are PST time zone and on mac gog version (I am not sure if version matters or not when connecting with others)
Looking forward to whatever may come of this, long live alpha centauri!

Hi,thanks.
Yes ,i had seen this website but what i was searching is the native version (nor the emulated with wine). Also i know they are some "problems" with the new versions of linux but they are already solved : they are a script which make it use the older linux libs without need to complex configuration or use a older version.

here are the files i found

http://www.mediafire.com/file/maiu0tz6qw3ppxv/caviar.rar

and a mini-Faq i have created explaining this files

The patent file (it was also included on the rar)

I came here following a link thrown up by a search for advice on playing Civ 6.
So, one of those sneaky Bots brought me here.

Hello,i have found more info of caviar tech.I post here the full magazines. It is great to read and also give us some interesting info. The most important:

The conversor is called "Caviator":
"The Caviator works as a plug-in for 3D Studio (R.4 or MAX) or as a standalone that accepts file formats such as Alias and Softimage"

-Caviar (.CVR) files can be made streamable

-Caviator will convert them to 3D pixels using an indexed 256 color palette (Adobe Photoshop .ACT format)

- CVR
file can also include animation data for segmented characters (those made of
linked body parts rather than a seamless skin). Animation data actually adds
very little to the file size: the 3D pixel chain for each body part is saved just
once, and a transform matrix is then created for each body part throughout
the movement routine.
**Each frame of animation adds only about 60 bytes to the .CVR file size**

Though the .CVR file can contain the full segmented model and animation data together, it also can consist of just voxelized geometry or just the transform matrix for movement. TecMagik has chosen to caviate its models piecemeal — one
body part or connected group of body parts at a time — then use Direct3D to
associate the pieces with motion-capture data

At the begining of October magazine i found than some published here were a mistake :

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/rec.games.programmer/9pF6JApFlYU/4DVNSfoZlocJ

ATD's voxel tech is diferent than caviar .
this morning i was upload this here because i think it could be other caviar voxel version

and the files if someone wanna try

I hold a scrap of paper in the darkness and light it. I watch it burn bright and curl, disappearing into nothingness, and the heat burns my fingers. Where has it gone? What has it become? I cannot shake the feeling that I have witnessed a form of transcendence.
