Okay, I think I see what the buttons I'm working on need - but tomorrow; my bed's singing to me.

Thing is, I had to add a row to my custom-created menu_gfx.png to do what I had in mind, and that threw a few other things off that had to be corrected - then a lot of tweaking the numbers determining what point was sampled in the file, tweaking the art and re-uploading, saving the code changes and navigating into a subforum to have a look after hitting refresh to see the changes --- a LOT of trial and error.  As always, my understanding of how things fit together -a family talent, good grasp of that- and what does what has grown.

There are things that just cannot be done under the current arrangement of code, with doing much to the .php files that merely will not BREAK the theme completely -as in, not load at all- is way over my head.  -So, not everything about the buttons is the way I'd rather, but what I can do within the limitations of the setup is finally done - I think.

In the attachment, note the set of new subforum and post-view buttons inserted towards the bottom.  That's pretty Trekked up, if you ask me.

-If the menu pull-downs were restored, this would now be right up there with Firaxis and SMAC as my favorites...

...And Enterprise is worth a look now, evil Spock...


I wrapped on Enterprise around noon, and I've been taking another pass at the last four things I wasn't satisfied with in Fake CFC - the spacing/red borders around the panels in the root index, the new post and reply buttons, posts needed a red border, and the text in Child Boards was butted up against the line, needing a little padding.

Done.  All tracked down and fixed.


It's been what, about a month I've been doing nothing but working on themes?  Folks, I spend all my time on it, and I want to discuss it.  Humor me and comment, please.

Firaxis: not bad. Enterprise: possible alternate. I like the old school Enterprise and seeing the whole ship.

FWIW, I appreciate the work you're putting in, even if I don't always like the results.

Odd. 

I went into Astronomy to tighten up the top a little more with my improved skillz, and uncollapsable greetings and news fields had appeared.  I don't remember anything like that before, and the last edit I'd done was a month ago to the day.  I had to get rid of the interlopers, of course, but that's easy, now, once I found where they are in the .css.

-Astronomy looks like a minor color-change of the default with a background added, but the stylesheet has been profoundly re-arranged, so not so easy as it could have been.  Still haven't gotten to what I went in to do...

...That was going pretty well until I realized something I'd done had caused most of the pull-downs to cut off only about a line down; nobody's getting into Downloads like THAT.  I finally realized the position: absolute; line I'd added (to prevent that disappearing at higher resolution when there's a negative top margin - but it turns out the line's wide enough that there was no need) was causing it for some reason.  Now, it's just a matter of fiddling with the placement of the breadcrumbs, and I'm done.

-I have snazzed up the active menu menu button a teeny bit -Astronomy could use a smidgen more pop- and made the text in general a bit larger; with all the smallish purple text against a purple background, this theme was clearly made by a youngster with sharper eyes than I.
